“York 1 night stay”
Reviewed 5 February 2012

I loved this hotel, we were upgraded to a lovely room with a 4 poster bed, ideal location it was a short walk into York, the staff I came in contact with were very friendly. The breakfast was very nice, the hotel, bar area and restaurant was nicely decorated. I really enjoyed my stay and wished it had been longer than 1 night hope to go back in the summer.

From walking through the door to leaving with a satisfying breakfast inside us, the service could not have been better. The staff were lovely and polite, something you don't often find any more. The luxury room (10 downing suite... brilliant) was great, really comfortable and modern with a nice en suite, and the breakfast in the morning was in a very eloquent rear room with a huge choice (my only disappointment of the whole stay was bottling it and not having the eggs benedict). I would certainly go back, without hesitation, and look forward to using this hotel again.

Stayed here for one night with a Living Social voucher. We paid an extra £40 to upgrade to a luxury room, but were very disappointed when we saw how small the room was. We had the Jenny suite - it was beautifully decorated with a lovely high ceiling, but there was not much space around the bed and after reading the description on the website of the luxury rooms we were expecting something a little more spectacular. A couple of other niggles, such as having to request the included bath robes and chocolates as they were not in the room, and the towel rail in the bathroom was also turned off with no obvious way of turning it on yourself. Also there was a room service breakfast form and comments card in the room but no pen, which isn't the biggest thing in the world but did indicate lack of attention to detail.

On the plus side, the staff were very helpful. There was a wedding taking place when we arrived and therefore the car park was completely full, but a helpful gentleman (I believe he was the manager) requested a member of staff remove their car so we could park. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel itself is very clean and nicely decorated. Brilliant location as well.

All in all, it was good value for the money we paid, but we would have been very unhappy if we had paid full price.

I stayed in the Churchill last week. Very pleasant small hotel with very nice staff. They looked after me properly . All meals were freshly made and very tasty. If you have a chance try it. As great as Churchill was.

Just returned from 1 night at this hotel. Overall it seemed very dark and a bit depressing and was quite glad to leave. The room was a "superior room" but was fairly small with very dim lighting even though there were plenty of lights! I think the colour of the walls maybe absorbed any light. Speaking of paintwork, this was very scuffed and the carpet worn. Compared to the standard room we'd stayed in at Raithwaite Hall in Whitby I certainly couldn't call it superior. We didn't eat dinner here so I can't comment too much on food but breakfast had an average selection and staff did their best to stop toast catching fire on the ageing toaster. The staff we met were very helpful and friendly and I have no complaints about them at all.

We stayed at the Churchill Hotel while visiting York on business. We have stayed a various hotels in York and none of them have lived up to the friendly welcome we received at the Churchill. The rooms were very pleasant, the breakfast extremely good and the staff were very helpful. My colleague left his keys behind and wonderful Dave on reception tried extremely hard to track us down before we left York. He also very kindly posted them back to us - service beyond the call of duty!
The hotel is a short walk from the Minster and very close to several good restaurants and shops. We didn't eat at the Churchill on this occasion, but have had excellent meals there in the past in their beautiful dining room
We have already booked for our next visit and can thoroughly recommend the hotel as ideal for a stay in a comfortable, friendly place in walking distance of the town.
