We only stayed 1 night in The Churchill. Wished it was for more!
Parking in York is generally not very good! However, parking at The Churchill is free and in their own grounds. They didn't mind that we left our car there after we had cheched out.

Our room was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and finished to very good standard. Breakfast was delicious and unrushed. It wasn't buffet service. Nice to be waited on! The service we recieved all through our short stay eas friendly and efficient

The location is spot on. Literally 5 minutes walk from The Minster and other attractions.

I can only agree with the other recent reviews of The Churchill in York - for a short city break (we were there for 3 nights at the end of November 2008) this hotel is perfectly adequate. It's a 3 star hotel, so of course if you are looking for super luxury you won't find it here, but we didn't really have any major complaints.

Yes, the room and its en-suite (Room 109) were small and out the back, but we found a good rate on lastminute.com and for the money we paid it was worth it.

The room and bathroom were both clean and modern - there was no bath but instead a large and powerful spa-type shower.

Radio by the side of the bed and a basic TV on the wall with the usual 5 channels only.

The room was cleaned and made up every day with no problems and breakfast in bed was brought at the requested time each day. I can't comment on the bar or restaurant as we didn't use either, preferring to eat in town.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and no issues there either.

There is ample free car parking at the hotel and it's just a short 5 - 10 minute walk into town. We did not return to the car until departure. This must be one of the plus points in a city such as York where many City centre hotels could not guarantee parking.

The one issue for us was the constant (and I mean constant..) loud droning noise in the room (and the corridor outside the room) from the heating or air conditioning. I could not sleep the first night and had to buy ear plugs. I suppose it might not disturb others as much.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel for a short break if you are looking for a clean, modern hotel in York which has all the basics you would need.

We have just got back from a 2 day break in York, staying at the Churchill Hotel.

The location of the hotel is great, about 10 mins from the city walls, but there is another good 5 minutes walk to get to the main shopping area once you are inside there.

On arrival the staff were very friendly, and we loved the fact that they showed us to our room, gave it a very personal feel.

The room was average size, everything was clean and tidy, and very modern for such an old building.

We had put the Do Not Disturb sign on our door on the morning after we arrived, and we didnt get up until noon! We removed it and put the 'please make up my room' sign whilst we went downstairs to go outside for our morning smoke (!) and asked for some coffee which was bought straight out to the cigar bunker (fantastic idea) - we were only out there about 20 minutes and when we got back to the room it had been fully serviced.......... excellent excellent service!

Would definatly recommend this hotel.

It became apparent very quickly this was not originally built as a hotel, the rooms here are completely overpriced and tiny, I have stayed in travelodge rooms that are bigger. The words luxury and superior are used to describe their rooms, but this only adds to the dissapointment when you see them. I have stayed in better hotels nearer the centre and cheaper ! The bar and restaurant area is very small, and when busy becomes uncomfortable. The food is however very good and the staff friendly and polite.

Great little hotel, 5 minutes from the city walls and minster. Clean, friendly, modern furnishings. We were in quite a small room out the back, but were only there one night so didn't matter. Were going to have breakfast until we realised it was going to be £15 each - a bit pricey compared to any number of places in town. Car park is very small and tight to park in. These are only small points though, overall a very nice place, comfortable and relaxing.

Great Hotel, we enjoyed our stay.
Hotel is easy to find and well priced for central york, close to everything you need.
We booked on bookings.com for one night in a double room but when we got there we were upgraded to the Bridal suite, a special treat for our anniversary.
The room was well furnished and very spacious.
Overall the customer service was very good, the gentleman that welcomed us was helpful and chatty and even stopped to say hello when he saw us in town.
The restaurant was also of a very high standard, quality food and an affordable menu to choose from. Breakfast wasn't as well prepared, but as it was included in the price and there was plenty to choose from it wasn't a problem.
The only complaint would be with one member of staff who was quite abrupt when we came back on the evening, but overall the staff were very helpful. They also let us keep our car in their car park after checking out, saving us from the extortionate parking charges in York.
A well recommended hotel that is affordable and very lavish for a 3 star.

The Churchill Hotel is ideally located - only a short walk to the Minster, which we could see from our room. The room was tastefully decorated, as was the rest of the hotel, however it was quite small and only suitable for a short stay. It was particularly uncomfortable in the evening, when it was very warm as there was no air con. It was also very noisy when trains passd on a nearby line. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
