Just got back from Jorvik hotel what a fantastic time we had. Booked with Laterooms and got great deal of £40 so wasn't expecting too much. Jacuzzi bath and 5 nozzle power shower were great. Bed really comfy. Could not fault any of the staff so polite and courteous. Checked in on a sunday and thought we were the only guests as very quite. After a very boozy evening our party of 4 was asked very nicely to keep the noise of our singing down. Imagine our surprise when there were around 30 other guests in the breakfast room next morning. Breakfast was lovely and not greasy. 2 minute walk through the park into the centre was good and we walked from the train station to the hotel in less than 10 mins. Excellent location and pub next door lovely lots eating there so must be good food. Would definately use this hotel again as whole stay was superb.

The Jorvik Hotel is a great hotel and in a great location. You walk through a beautiful park and you are at all the shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel is small but i didnt mind. The staff are all friendly, helpful and serve a brilliant breakfast. The rooms were small too but have enough space for 2. The bed is HUGE and extremly comfortable. The bathroom had a Jaccuzi bath in which was amazing and really ralaxing. I will be returning for the 2nd time later in the year and my mother is going this weekend for her 3rd visit. I would recommond The Jorvik to couples, older people and young people as it is both relaxing and close to all of the shops, bars and restaurants. GREAT weekend away all round =D xx

On approaching the hotel, it has a shabby appearance. That is also evident in the corridors, particularly the carpets which are a mixture of all sorts patched together - none in good condition. Check-in was OK but we had to negotiate stepladders etc to reach our room (the "refurbishment" is still ongoing!) The room seemed OK at first glance but --- only one hanger in the wardrobe. No towel rails, hooks, shelves or even a toilet roll holder &, there was no sink plug. We did get some extra hangers, along with the hand towels & bath mat which were also missing, when we asked, but we never did see a sink plug. The heating was a convector in the bedroom which was positioned dangerously close to the curtains & bed. The bathroom had no form of heating at all. Although they had attempted to fit one (only to discover it would vent into the corridor - the holes are evident) there was no extractor in the bathroom & having no window, meant it was impossible to ventilate it. This bathroom has a multijet shower but it was difficult to control the temperature on it & the water pressure wasn't good enough to make it work properly anyway. There was also a jacuzzi bath which did work well but must be noisy for the adjoining rooms. The bed was clean & comfortable & the carpet & decoration good. Oddly, there was a consumer unit in the room which made a worrying hum which seemed to get worse during our stay & loud enough to be disturbing at night. There was a large flat screen TV/DVD which worked well. The view from the room was not the museum gardens as described but was in fact the Church & wall to the gardens. Not a big problem but not as expected.
Breakfast was at best adequate. Don't go hungry or you will leave that way too! (First time I have ever been served half a piece of Black pudding & thinly sliced at that!) No Marmalade! The chairs are the type you would expect to find on a patio - wooden folding. The dining area was on the cold side with no form of heating apparent. Staff were pleasant enough but a bit uncommunicative. Very limited parking at the hotel.
The best thing about this hotel is its location.

Went for birthday treat for my husband. No heating, electric heater in bedroom with cable across floor nice to trip over. Curtain pole still had cellophane round it, Wall sockets and telephone points not finished off, No phone in room. Told would be hairdryer in room. obviously well hidden. Bathroom yuk. Toilet was fitted in with shoe horn, could not sit properly and arm on one side hunched up against wall, the other the shower screen, bit like a sardine in a can. Towel rail not adequte heating for bathroom, but step back from the hand basin and you could scald yourself. When shower /bath in use, torrent of water running down tiles, xpelair not working. TIles on floor not grouted. According to hotel guide, should have had air con/heater on wall, not to be seen. No soap in bathroom, Wardrobe no existent/one chrome rail stand with two hangers on it/ dressing table was an old office desk with one chair. Breakfast dining room, electric fan heaters all over the place with cables trailing across the floor, real health and safety issue here. No radiators to be seen anywhere. We had left our suitcase in the reception area on arrival, as we were early, it was still there at 5pm when we went back to the hotel. Good security system. Any other hotel it would be placed in a secure room or taken to your hotel room. When we commented on all the above, the manager was not that bothered and said "I was not aware of the problems as I have not been up to that room (Yes on the very top floor with the pidgeons. ) He also said you should have asked for more hangers, No we should have had a wardrobe. Seems to me that they have run out of money and cannot afford to finish off the work in progress. Either that or they just decided to put us in an unfinished room. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Went their several years ago and it was fine, hence my reason for having gone back, BIG MISTAKE.
