We stayed for one night and the visit totally exceeded our expectations. Apart from good value for money; everything about the little gem was just perfect - out SatNav died on the way up so we followed the printed off instructions the website had provided which got us there perfectly. On arrival we got greeted by the nicest employee, Tom, who explained everything to us. Apart from the obvious -clean, quiet, tasteful interior - it was the little touches that made our stay. Chilled water and milk available all night form a communal fridge? Check. Cosy common room with fire, sofas, books, board games? Check. Nespresso machine, wet wipes, organic toiletries in the room? Check. And don't get me started on breakfast... a dream. Healthy cereal/fresh fruit buffet and a massive choice of cooked breakfast; plus lush coffee. I forgot places like this existed!

The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful - they just couldn't do enough for us..

The hotel itself is a real gem, public spaces were comfortable and welcoming and the bedroom was really well appointed - and, more importantly, very quiet.

Breakfast was delicious!

Will definitely stay again...

This was a fabulous hotel. One of the best features is the staff. They are extremely welcoming, helpful, polite, and so nice! The room was clean and neat. The bed was very comfortable. The shower and bathroom were clean and spacious. The breakfast was a wonderful, filling start to each day with a nice variety of selections. The electric tea kettle in the room was a really nice touch too! Love having a cup of tea in our room after a chilly day outside. The hotel is also within a short walk to town. Close to everything we wanted to explore. Shopping, restaurants, museums all close by. My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights and loved our stay. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Would definately stay here again. A superb experience!! We had an early train the day we departed and they called a taxi for us and packed us a lovely breakfast to go. Thank you St. Denys Hotel!!

Tom was great on the desk as we checked in, had a horrible day of train cancellations to get to York and he made check in so easy and with a friendly face. Gave us a map of the city with the hotel located. Room was great with king bed, plenty of tea/coffee/biscuits. Bathroom was nice.

Breakfast in the morning downstairs is beautiful, no buffet like the large chains but freshly prepared hot food with tea, coffee, juices and cereals provided.

Anyone coming to York should do themselves a favour and book this place.

This is a fab independent hotel within the walls at York. The room was beautiful and clean, the breakfasts were very good, but the thing that really makes St Denys stand out is the staff who were friendly, helpful and informative. Fab find, would highly recommend.

We have had the most wonderful stay at the St Denys Hotel. Upon arriving we were greeted by an attentive member of staff who offered us a hot drink in the library after our train journey. We declined as we were heading straight out for something to eat but the was so helpful, providing us with maps and making sure we knew where we were going. Our room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed with a good selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits which were replenished during our stay. There is a lovely hot shower, fresh clean towels and a selection of toiletries to use. We also made good use of the communal fridge that was stocked with fresh milk and filtered water. The bed was so comfortable and we both slept really well, however, I think the best part of our stay was the breakfast! In the morning we were greeted with more friendly staff and offered a drink whilst we looked through the menu and had a gander at the continental breakfast. The continental breakfast was delicious with Greek yoghurt, homemade preserve and poached pears, kiwi, honey and a selection of nuts, seeds and dried fruit. There was also fresh fruit and fruit juice. Both days of our stay I ordered the cinnamon toast and my boyfriend had the full breakfast, both were amazing! We were so sad to leave you but we will definitely be back, thank you to all the staff

Stayed at St Deny's for two nights recently and despite not being a B&B regular (I stay in large hotels generally) this is an absolute gem. From the moment we drove up to the front of the hotel to the goodbye, the team at the hotel could not do enough for us. From restaurant bookings, to express laundry service to recommendation of sights etc. Breakfast was diverse, fresh and excellent. Room was very quiet yet hotel was well located and very close to the city. Maria, Sophie and Tom were just fabulous and really go out of their way to ensure your stay is better than expected. If I return to York in the future would have no hesitation staying here again.
