If you fall into the mature category,or you have a young family, you must try Spurriergate Centre. We visit York most months and stay for a week every year and the SC is where we relax after battling through the crowds of young people who always seem in a hurry to get to wherever they are going. The food is wholesome and there is a good range of soft drinks. The staff, who are volunteers or people looking to make a difference to their lives, are great and the atmosphere is one of safety and calm. This last point is reflected by the fact that many women and girls are clearly happy to visit on their own.

Can't wait to visit again.

Regularly eat here when shopping in York.

Children prefer chains but this offers good authentic home cooked food.

Staffed by volunteers.

Very good value

This is one of the many old churches in York that have been turned into something else - this time a thriving café (excellent value food) and areas for displays by local groups. Much of the monumental plaques have been saved and adorn the walls. The railed area around the old alter has been converted into a young children's soft toy area.

Staff are very friendly. Food and snacks available are very reasonably priced. A very decent cup of tea and coffee, with a sandwich, enjoyed by my wife and I. You can even get one free refill of a filter coffee, what better could you ask. Visited twice on an overnight stay in York, both experiences as good as the other.
