Owner description: Established in May 1996 inside the historic Micklegate Bar Walls, York Brewery is both a traditional working brewery and a major tourist attraction providing customers locally and from around the country with the first real ales from within the walls of York for over 40 years. Come along and experience the traditional art of brewing within the historic city walls. We offer guided tours around the brewery offering an insight on how we produce our award-winning range of ales. Plus, make sure you visit the York Brewery Gift Shop before you leave for those last minute souvenirs and mementos. We stock an extensive range of exclusive York Brewery merchandise including our full range of bottled beers, gift sets, books and clothing.

We visited one afternoon in late October. On arrival there was a staff member stood outside the entrance door smoking, not a good first impression.
On enteringt the bar area we were told the tour would start shortly and asked if we would like to sample half a pint an ale brewed at the brewery as you received a pint of ale with the cost of the tour.
The staff member showed good knowledge of the ales and how they were brewed.
Shortly after we started the tour which is short in distance but makes up for that with the knowledge of the staff member presenting it.
At the end of the tour you can have the second half of a choice of ales available and you can sit in a warm comfortable bar area and chat.
There is a small brewery shop selling a selection of merchandise and you can have membership to the brewery which allow you to visit regularly to sample the beer but this discriminate against Yorkshire residents as it is considerably cheaper to live outside of Yorkshire and have membership than living in Yorkshire
During our time sat sampling the excellent ales staff stood at the bar texting on there mobile phones and using the bar to roll there cigarettes which I found horrible.

Not too far from the train station... you enter a dark passage...go up the stairs and enter a lovely pub where you'll ask a really nice member of staff about the tour...
we were a little group of less than 10 peope and the visit was really pedagogical and interesting...tasting cereals...seeing how beer is brewed and then tasting two half-pint of York brewery beer!

A great little brewery tour with very knowledgeable guide, and the opportunity to sample some of the best beer in the country within yards of where it is brewed. For all beer drinkers or those with an interest in brewing, this is a must.

Went here the other day and £6 for one person for the tour is way over priced. You only get two rooms. In one there is hardly anything init only sacks basically. The other room which adjoins it is not that interesting unless you want to see two big tanks or the most interesting thing for me was actually seeing the yeast of the beer through a glass window. The tour only last 25 minutes. Not long for what I paid. So overall it is way to overpriced, I would of payed maximum of £2.50 to get in because their is nothing really interesting to see unless you are a person who really loves and interested in beer.
