As I was staying close to the brewery and I like drinking real ales, it seemed that the only sensible thing to do was take a visit! The rest of the family weren't interested, so I went on my own for the last tour of the day (5pm)
You get a pint or two half pints included in the ticket price of £6. I had half before the tour and then half afterwards. I then had to try another two different halves as well just for comparison and research purposes you understand ;)
The brewery is quite a small set up and the tour is tailored to the size of the brewery. But there is still a fair amount of info from the staff and you get to see the brew room from above, looking down into the wort etc.
I got chatting to a couple of others on the tour afterwards over a beer which was a pleasant end to the visit.

Wasn't really expecting much for the small tour fee, but it was really interesting and the 2 free half pints in the tap room at the end of the tour made it excellent value.
NB if you buy your tickets from the tourist information office you also get a 10% discount !

Great local brewery with a short tour and two tasting 'tokens' included, which can be used for 2 half pints, or soft drinks. Jake the tour guide was very knowledgeable and for the price it was excellent. It's not a big place so the tour doesn't take long, but it's still an interesting look at the process of brewing their real ales, and a good chance to buy some of the local beers. Also runs it's own bar inside with very reasonable prices, so worth popping in simply for a beer!

Nice informative tour. Learned lots about brewing beer. The price (£6 at time of review) included 2 halfs of beer from the 6 on offer. Great homely bar area. Worth a visit

We visited the brewery on our first day in York, after finding it on the map that the hotel gave us. Easy to find, just round the corner from the Micklegate bar Museum. The tour comes with a drink included and since we had a short wait for the next tour, we were given the choice of having the drink first or splitting the pint into 2 halves and having a drink before and after, which is what we did.

The tour isn't too long, but it was very interesting and we got a good explanation of how the ale is produced. My husband sampled a couple of their ales and was very impressed with the taste. Reasonable price for the tour and drink - well worth a visit!
