Yes ... you do have to pay to enter the minster, but why not? The upkeep of this historic place of worship must be enormous and the cost was well worth it. Look out for free guided tours (lasting about an hour) by a very enthusiastic volunteer guide to be made aware of all the interesting bits you would have missed. Your ticket is valid for ONE YEAR, so if staying locally for a few days, return to view the crypt or the roof without paying another entry charge to the Minster. The sense of peace and tranquility is worth a repeat visit
