Stayed here for two nights last December . Very friendly staff on reception , offered to carry our cases to our room which was in the attic. Small room and smelt slightly musty on arrival but was lovely and warm and clean. There is a small carpark to the front of the hotel so would immagine it gets pretty full! Breakfast was fabulous and the best eggs benedict I have ever tasted :-) I would stay here again but would make sure it wasn't the small attic room !

Room Tip: Not the small attic room ! Staircase very narrow with steep steps!

As a small independent hotel customer service and satisfaction is very high on our list of priorities and therefore positive and constructive feedback is always appreciated.
We look forward to welcoming you both back to the Mount Royale Hotel in the not so distant future.

From arriving to leaving the service was first class and extremely friendly. This independent hotel has lots of character and finesse. The bar is lovely and friendly and the food in the restaurant is excellent and well priced.
I would pick this hotel the next time I find myself in York.

We have arrived back home after visiting the Mount Royale Hotel for four nights. This was an exceptional hotel, the staff and everyone there were extremely helpful, the breakfasts and food in the restaurant were first class, although as we were meeting friends on two of the days for dinner we were only able to eat in the restaurant on two nights much to our disappointment. The banana cake is delicious, you should try for the Great British Bake Off. Many thanks to Marie, Sharon, John and everyone else who I don't know the names of and also the lady who bakes the cakes. Many many thanks Audrey & Ralph Stockley

Can't speak highly enough of the Mount Royal .. We come here for a racing weekend every year and cannot fault the rooms, ( which are large to say the least) the service or the food. I think a hotel is represented by its staff and as long as I have been coming it's the same friendly faces as always.I find that reassuring ! The hotel is situated at the top end of town so no noise to speak of. It's nice. I guess the breakfasts here are one of the reasons why people return .. It's awesome ! I managed to ween myself off the full English to try the haddock and also the home baked ham. Amazing! I read sometimes it's tired and needs an uplift ... Maybe ... For me, I like it as it is .. A one off family run hotel where clients matter and service is impeccable.
See you all next year and thank you.

We had a lovely stay at Mount Royale. At first approach i was unsure whether it would be suitable for us as a family, (I took my 6 yr old daughter) but we all had a lovely time. The room was tranquil and classically decorated. We love good coffee so the cafetierre was a perfect addition to our room! Personal touches such as morning papers and a hand written note from the lady who cleaned are room made the experience even more special. The breakfast was perfect and the host was very attentive to us. Whilst in the pool area she welcomed us to the hotel with a small glass of wine and a juice in a "special" wine cup for my daughter - which she loved. The facilities were great. My only criticism would be the price, whilst appreciating it was a BH £225 was rather expensive. Otherwise - top notch hotel!

The building dates back to the 1830's and is therefore very individual and full of character, but also full of nice surprises such as our Old English country garden with pool area.
As a family owned hotel we pride ourselves on good customer service, providing a warm and welcoming environment where our guests can relax and unwind and are delighted to hear that you all had a lovely time

We cant rate the service in the hotel enough. We got married in York on 7th September and stayed 2 nights in this hotel. How I wish we had had our wedding here! We had 7 rooms for our party and every single one of them was great - spacious and well decorated, each with a touch of individuality. Yes the hotel is an old building but the owners have made sure it isn't dated whilst ensuring it has not lost any of its charm. The breakfast is amazing with lots of choice and everything was beautifully cooked. And the staff - I cannot fault anyone of them. From the second we arrived to the moment we left we received nothing but first class service. Our bags were carried to our rooms, ice buckets provided, taxis arranged. We had 2 young children in the group and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. From sorting out breakfasts to managing our pushchairs and car seats. The garden is lovely with lot of little paths to follow. The garden furniture probably doesn't quite match the rest of the hotel but this is just an observation, not an issue. The hotel is over my 'every day' budget which is such a shame as we would love to spend all our wedding anniversaries here! Hopefully we will return at some point as we did not get chance to use the restaurant. A really big thank you to all staff who helped make our wedding weekend special x x

Room Tip: Any of the 7 rooms we stayed in were great - couldn't find fault with any!

Although this is on our doorstep it was the first time we had been inside. We were invited to a friends birthday drink and were so surprised at how stunning the bar area is, the wood looks so inviting and the huge fireplace sets the scene. The bar staff were friendly and had a good grasp of how to serve a busy bar and keep everyone happy. Must come for something to eat. Wonderful atmosphere.
