If you want an ultra-chic modern stay in York, then look elsewhere. Ascot House offers a very traditional experience from the decor all the way through to the exemplary service. Breakfast went well beyond the usual fayre, and there's also the added benefits of residents lounge, licensed premises and off-road parking. Highly recommended if you want an excellent level of service at a sensible price.

We stayed here for two nights, what a lovely place to stay.Spotlessly clean, attention to detail, friendly and helpful staff, cosy and comfortable, wonderful en suite with lovely power shower, THE most comfortable bed, just did not want to come home, will definitely visit again when in York. Breakfast was exceptional just cannot find one fault. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. THIS B AND B IS A MUST IF YOU VISIT YORK.

What a fabulous B&B a nice walk from York centre approx. 15 minutes walk to the centre. A beautiful old house full of character which has been preserved wonderfully.

The bedrooms are well fitted with comfortable beds made with lovely crisp cotton sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of storage space. Flat screen tv. Wet room with powerful shower, deep sink toiletries and lovely fluffy white towels.

The dining room is pretty and the tables are comfortably spread out. The breakfast was perfect. Good choice of cereals, fruit, seeds ,fruit juices, croissants to help yourself to. Then waitress service for cooked breakfast of your choice. Also porridge available. Plentiful toast, butter and marmalade. The girls waiting on were lovely, very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

There is a comfortable lounge with big comfy settees to relax in ,where you can have drinks of your choice at a reasonable cost.

The owners are very helpful, suggesting places to visit, places to dine and will phone for a taxi if needed.

We went into the centre by taxi and it cost £4 , great value. Opposite the B&B there is a small co-op perfect for those forgotten items. To the side of the B&B there is a pretty park with a play area for children.

The Ascot House is a very large and stately B&B in a character property run by a charming couple. The beds are really comfortable and the breakfast is typical olden style B&B with marmalade in a small glass bowl and butter in a special butter saucer neatly presented on your table. Plenty of food and variety at breakfast. Well worth a stay.

Wonderful place to stay. Wendy was marvelous and knowledgeable about the sites to see. The BnB was beautiful clean and the food delish. Would stay there again. Great place for a getaway! We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary on St Patty's Day and had a blast.

A with most, I chose this B+B based on rigorous review reading!! I was confident we were going somewhere lovely but Ascot House exceeded my expectations.
Our room was lovely. Beautifully clean with a 4 poster canopy bed. The decor was 'olde worlde' type furniture but that in keeping with the age of the property. However, the bathroom was amazing!!!! Vilroy and Boch butler sink (spotless) - HUGE mirror and a shower that would it 3 people in it!!!! The shower was amazingly powerful and again, spotless. The loo - spotless. I watch 4 in a bed too much and did notice the dirty loo brush (but really it didn't bother me too much) - that is probably the only fault I found!! Heated towel rail etc and an array of toiletries/tissues etc. I did find the hairdryer a tad annoying so I would bring my own next time :-) Room was lovely and warm but could regulate it how we liked and I have never slept so well away from home!! The bed was fantastic - the 4 poster didn't feel too stable if you'd like to have some fun on it though ;-) But then you have that massive shower ;-) haha
On our 2nd night, I had hurt my knee and we were unable to go our for dinner as planned. We decided on a takeaway but there was no way I wanted to eat it in the room. We asked if it would be possible to eat in their guest lounge. The owner was so kind and let us use one of the dining tables in the breakfast room and when our food had arrived, he had made it cosy and had turned the oven on and heated some plates for us!! We were so touched by that as he really didn't need to do all that. Hospitality - beyond brilliant.
Breakfast was plentiful and good quality ingredients. Only thing I would suggest would be to have eggs benedict on the menu rather than just a fry up. Their poached eggs in my fry up were to die for so the chef can definitely make a fab egg. It's a choice I'd love to have when i'm away as I can't be faffed doing it at home. There was also a great choice of fruits, yogurts, cereals etc.
The bus stop is 30 seconds away and costs £1 into town or a cab cost us £4.10. You could obviously walk it too but isn't exactly scenic!
York city centre was lovely and we visited the usual touristy things. There is a terror trail outside the Golden Fleece pub (York's most haunted pub) - it's only £5 and was great. It lasted an hour and you got to hear alot of the history of York. It was amusing and fun and great for both adults and children. We were so glad we decided to eat at The Golden Fleece after - their food was lovely!!!!!!!
If you visit York - I wholeheartedly recommend Ascot House.
