“A magical emporium of beautiful things”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Mulberry hall is both a beautiful old building and an Aladin's cave of beautiful tableware, kitchenware, ornaments and jewellery. Definitely not for those on a tight budget but perfect for finding an extra special gift or just for looking around. Once inside you follow a labyrinth of quirky shaped rooms each with something new to discover. They ship all around the world so if you are lucky enough to be buying, you don't have to worry about carrying it home.

“A hidden gem!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

Gives Betty's a run for it's money!! A friend and I went for an afternoon hot beverage and a slice of cake. Gorgeous crockery, yummy cakes (including a gluten free range) and a great environment. Apart from the young grumpy (Saturday) waitress who must have been having a bad day we both thought it was lovely and we'll definitely be going back again.

Note: Tea pot for 1 gives you a generous 3 full cups of tea - they give you loads of milk and a jug of hot water too. Watch out though because whilst pouring my final cup the lid fell into my tea!!! It was definitely one of those "did that really just happen?!?" moments..! Apparently it happens a lot - I asked the staff! So do hold the lid whilst pouring!!

In conclusion, if you like Betty's but the queue is too long, this is a great and hidden alternative just a few steps from Little Betty's.

P.s The beautiful bone china tea cups are £22.50 each and the saucers are £20.00 each! What do you expect for Wedgewood? You can buy then from the store downstairs.

“A sandwich to die for”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013

We were visiting Mulberry Hall to look at Herend china, although the selection was somewhat disappointing compared with years ago when we lived in the area.

However, this was completely overshadowed by the best prawn and crab sandwich available anywhere in the world. This sandwich alone is worth a trip to York; take my word for it!

“Fantastic food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2013 via mobile

I went to mulberry hall on recommendation from tripadvisor.
The tea room was amazing! The food fresh and fantastic and service great. I had a wonderful crab and prawn sandwich. Then ordered a cream tea which came with two scones! There was a great selection of cakes.
Everything was served on beautiful tableware sold in the shop.
It really was a great experience... Better then Betty's!

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2013

For me this is the best tearoom in York, the food is always excellent & the staff polite. We always have the Welsh rarebit, the cakes are first-rate too. The drinks come served in the most stunning chinaware. It’s almost like stepping into a tearoom of the past, for me it’s better than Bettys .
