Description: A cosy homemade tearooms within a quaint antiques centre in the heart of york

Tucked away at the top of the stairs in an antiques shop is a perfect respite from the bustling alleyways of York.

Mollies is a café that is perfectly positioned to restore the fading energy of people busling between the many tourist offerings and shops available in York. Other places may have more of a magnetic draw for tourists but Mollies is the sort of place one needs when spending a long day in an unfamiliar city.

It was noticeable that amongst those dining when we visited were plenty who appeared to be locals, taking a break from shopping or meeting up with friends and family. A good sign as if the locals eat there then the place will inevitably be good.

Whilst we only had a light lunch – I opted for Bacon and Egg Flan with Baked Potato whilst my wife had a tasty Carrot and Coriander Soup – portions were hearty.

Service was friendly and efficient.

The toilet facilities were not so good but that is a minor quibble.

Overall Hollies offers good value and an important service to flagging tourists.

And if you wish you can always browse the antiques and find a priceless treasure!

The decor may be past its best and it's odd having a tea room tucked upstairs in an antique shop, but Molly's is definitely worth a visit! The paninis were just of good standard, but the cake was AMAZING. I had treacle & ginger cake and my partner had fudge cheesecake. We can honestly say they were the best cake we've ever eaten. Delicious!

A great choice of gluten free meals including sandwiches and cakes. Good value too with friendly staff.

This tea house is on the first floor of the Antiques centre, the staircase is tucked at the back. My son had jacket potato, my daughter had Panini and I had soup which was all very nice, the staff were very friendly. The deserts were such a delight and the ginger cake was to die for; they told us the cakes are home baked. The food was very good value for money, I did return at end of march with my friend at around four pm but Molly`s was closed so we went to Betty`s which is just a tourist trap.

Despite the advertising boards being up outside and the building being open for another 2 hours, we climbed the stairs at 3pm on a Bank Holiday to request afternoon tea and were told 'sorry, we're closing now'. Do not advertise 'afternoon tea' if you are shutting at 3pm!

thankyou for your review, i have checked out your review and feel you must have visited on a sunday of which i do close at 3!! this is due to the antiques centre closing at 4 and i dont want people to feel rushed while eating, monday to saturday i am open till 4. it can be a bit misleading with the shop closing at 5.30 so i apologise you felt you had wasted your time coming up. i do hope if you are in york another day you could visit us again within my opening times and enjoy some of mollys homemade treats on me and then perhaps your review would be different:)
kind regards
nicky
