Tucked away at the top of the stairs in an antiques shop is a perfect respite from the bustling alleyways of York.
Mollies is a café that is perfectly positioned to restore the fading energy of people busling between the many tourist offerings and shops available in York. Other places may have more of a magnetic draw for tourists but Mollies is the sort of place one needs when spending a long day in an unfamiliar city.
It was noticeable that amongst those dining when we visited were plenty who appeared to be locals, taking a break from shopping or meeting up with friends and family. A good sign as if the locals eat there then the place will inevitably be good.
Whilst we only had a light lunch – I opted for Bacon and Egg Flan with Baked Potato whilst my wife had a tasty Carrot and Coriander Soup – portions were hearty.
Service was friendly and efficient.
The toilet facilities were not so good but that is a minor quibble.
Overall Hollies offers good value and an important service to flagging tourists.
And if you wish you can always browse the antiques and find a priceless treasure!
