perfect for the city and all attractions easy access for town even though we were on a main road we were not bothered by noise the staff were 100% helpful and friendly but professional with it, and the idea of having a weatherspoons almost jointed was a bonus. my husband being terminally ill we were treated with the utmost respect

This modern hotel is in a great location just a 5 min walk to the town centre, and a 3 min walk to the Barbican, and a 2min walk to the car park . The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and tidy, and it was not noisy at night even though there is a pub next door.

It's a fair walk from the railway station but great location for nearly everything else and just a short walk from the Barbican which was the main purpose of our visit. The hotel was actually a bit tricky to find at first as there are 2 Travelodges and both are called York Central, so we went to the wrong one first - at Micklegate. We also arrived in York early thinking that we would be able to leave our bags and start enjoying the weekend straightaway. However we were told no facilities for leaving bags but as our rooms were ready we could book in early for an extra £10 per room(we had 3 rooms between us). I have never come across this trick before and it's not exactly a warm welcome! So we went across to the very handy Wetherspoons, which is adjacent to the hotel and had a leisurely lunch by the riverside with our bags in tow instead! Of the 3 rooms all were clean and tidy although one room had not had the bed made properly, the bottom sheet had been forgotten which unfortunately exposed a stained, albeit clean, mattress protector. To be fair this was seen to immediately and the manager was most apologetic offering a free breakfast for the occupants, can't say fairer than that! There are no toiletries offered except one small bottle of shower gel which we used for hand wash. You can buy a pack of useful toiletries from the vending machine if you forget to bring them. It was very convenient to have Wetherspoons so close for good service, cheap and very tasty breakfast, and a night cap or afternoon drink as we returned to the hotel. I will say however that I felt a little insecure when returning at night as anyone could walk into the hotel and enter the lift, there was only secure access to the stairs. The reception desk was not 'manned' in the evening although we presumed there was someone watching CCTV in the back. There was some noise from Wetherspoons at night of course but the outside tables closed at 11 p.m. So this didn't really bother any of us - earplugs are always handy things to travel with! The beds were very comfy, although because we had such good weather the rooms were very warm, I would imagine quite uncomfortably so in the height of summer. All in all we would stop here again if we were visiting the Barbican especially, although we felt that the 3 pm check in was late, and it was unfair to ask for an extra £10 each when our rooms were obviously ready and sat empty. When we checked in at 3 p.m. of course there was a great long queue so this attempt to make a bit more money on top of room rates is not fair to clients or staff.

Room Tip: Facing the river would be good but you don't stay at the Travelodge for luxury rooms anyway!
