“Lovely stay”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

We have just recently returned from a great 3 day break in York staying at the HI. On arrival I asked for an upgrade to the Executive Floor for an extra £15pn as usually they are quite a bit different in quality and size than a standard room. Although the room was clean and tidy with a large King Size bed, the rest of the room was very "compact" especially the bathroom which did take a bit of negotiating around the sink. Although would consider to stay at the HI on out next visit early 2014, however we may look for somewhere with larger and bigger rooms and cheaper. Staff however are brilliant.

I arranged to have our society's Christmas Dinner in a private room at the Holiday Inn, from the first contact with the event organiser to the last, they could not have been more helpful. They took a lot of work off me, such as name places and table plans, I gave them a list of names and food requirements, and they took it all in hand themselves. We were having a band and when they turned up they wanted the dance floor moving and also the tables, but even then the staff just went ahead and did as they requested. We had crackers and party poppers included with the meal price. Guests had a choice of 3 starter, main and sweets, these were pre ordered but delivered on the night by very efficient waiter, and waitress with the help of the duty manager, every one got what they ordered. The food was of good quality, well presented and hot, well done to the chef. The meal was delivered in record time, considering there was another large party going on, so we had more time to enjoy the band.
We stayed for 2 nights and found the rooms very comfortable, with large towels, tissues, hot water with shampoo and bath gel in the bathroom. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel, even the edges of the carpet to skirting board where spotless, well done to the cleaning staff.
The buffet breakfast was good, we would have liked porridge, I am sure if we had asked they would have obliged as nothing was too much trouble for any of the pleasant staff.
Well done Holiday Inn York, keep it up. We travel a lot and arrange and go to many functions and this was definable the best .Congratulation to all the staff.

the best bit of the hotel was definitely the staff - they were very friendly and accommodating - the room was clean, a bit tired but clean - the fridge I think made a funny squeaking noise all night so I slept with a pillow over my head! the bar was nice and we had a good Christmas party mostly because we were surrounded by good friends! I would stay there again especially with the kids as it seems a good walk into York but plenty of free parking and the access to buses sounds easy.

I stayed here for work last week, it is in desperate need of an upgrade refurbishment and some staff training. Ive stayed in better Travelodge's. Very disappointing for this brand - they are evidently taking advantage of the location and tourist $$.

We booked this on a very short notice 'secret' hotel deal, and for what we paid (around £80) it was very good, the room was clean and tidy but could have done with a bit of TLC, the furniture and fixture and fittings looked like they had not been changed for 20 years and wereshowing signs of wear and tear. Apart from this the room was great for what we needed, it was a 25minute walk into the town and it was great that the parking was free.

Overall not bad but I think the £140 per night price advertised behind the desk is pushing it a bit for the standard of accommodation.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn for five nights, planned to stay for four but there is so much to see in York and the surrounding area. The staff were extremely helpful, the breakfast buffet was delicious.
We left the car at the hotel and went into York by bus, a matter of minutes and so much cheaper than car park charges.
Place worth visiting include the undercrypt at York Minster, Fountains Abbey (out of town).
A delightful italian restaurant in the Shambles 'L'Antico, so good we went twice.

Room Tip: All Hoilday Inn rooms are excellent and there is no problem with noise at this hotel,

Just spent 3 nights here on our trip to york which was our first visit. The hotel was easy to find the reception staff very friendly and helpfull with getting into York. The bus stop was opposite the hotel and a dayrider ticket was £3.70 and the city was only ten minutes. Our room was very spacious and clean. The only problem we had was a noise from the heating system in the night this was sorted for us by the time we got back from the city on day two. The breakfast was first class and a good selection even pancakes. We had a meal in the restaurant on the first evening which was also excellent although we thought a little expensive as our bill was over £70 although we did have a bottle of wine with it the 10% service charge didn't help. I have never agreed with service charges. We went to the fox & roman opposite the hotel on the second evening for a meal which cost £45 with a bottle of wine this to was excellent and on the third night we had a meal at the three tuns in the city which was even cheaper and really nice food only a bit on the large side.
This hotel is the best holiday inn that we have stayed in so far and we have stayed in a lot we would stay again without a doubt. Wether we would eat in the restaurant in the evening again the service charge would have to be dropped first.

Room Tip: 413 was very nice
