We recently stayed at this hotel for one night on our way to Stratford on Avon. I loved the town of York and expected the hotel to have the same charming feel as the city but it didn’t. It is very outdated and is in need of renovation. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and clean. If that is all you want then this is the place for you. We were looking for something more. We did eat dinner and breakfast in the hotel. It was not outstanding but perfectly fine and reasonably priced. There were plenty of choices on the buffet style breakfast. Even the pickiest person could find something to eat. After dinner we took a walk to the racetrack which is right next door to the hotel.

This was part of Trafalgar's Scenic England. The included dinner was so so. The breakfast was okay.

Just returned from Easter trip to York with wife and toddler son. Four nights at Holiday Inn Tadcaster Road. Excellent location - easy walk plus regular buses to town. Hotel was well maintained and clean. Bathroom was fine with a decent shower. All staff went the extra mile especially reception and the restaurant manager. Restaurant was busy with families and tour groups but all staff and management were observant, diligent and above all friendly. Breakfast buffet was good. Room service food was good and on time. Prior request for travel cot was delivered without a problem. Quiet efficiency is an underrated attribute. You will find it here.

We had a three night week-end at the holiday inn York and enjoyed every moment of our stay. We were only a short bus ride from York city centre (and at £3.50 for an all day ticket we never used our car once during or stay). Ample parking was available at the hotel and we slept sound in the knowledge that our car was well protected. Our room was very clean and more than met our expectations. Every member of staff went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Breakfast was available on a continental basis or full English (or both if you wanted them) and proved to br good value for money. Due to prior arrangements we did not have dinner in the hotel however, the menu looked reasonabily priced and varied - we will certainly have dinner on our next stay in the hotel. Overall we had a good time and would recommend the Holiday Inn for a short stay in York.

Stayed there for my birthday weekend and couldn't have been more delighted. The staff were excellent; friendly and obliging. Produced card and bottle for birthday, refused payment for wine for dinner and then delivered a birthday cake to my room. What can I say?
We got an excellent deal with Saga and expected a mediocre hotel. We were all delighted an would highly recommend.

Stayed for one day following a conference in the same hotel. To be frank there's nothing terribly wrong with the hotel, it is reasonable in every aspect. That however is the problem - this is hotelry from 1990, Swirly carpets, oddly out of date furniture, bog standard food and a hotel room that could be any mediocre generic hotel anywhere in the world. There's simply nothing memorable or special - it's entirely functional, a warm place to sleep. If that's all your looking for (and to be fair on the evening in question that's all I wanted) then it fulfills it's job - if however, you want something more for your £90 a night, then this isnt the place for you. My advice to Holiday Inn - start in the bedrooms, the bathrooms and the bar. All need a rethink and money spending. Holiday Inn used to be synonymous with quality and style - now it's the McDonalds of the hotel world albeit without the value for money.
