This is a great place to start at if you have just parked in the castle car park. The food is good pub grub, drinks are not out of the way and they do cater for childrens fayre. Nice and bright now it has had a spring clean and the staff are helpful and friendly

Food was ok but the restaurant lacks atmosphere. Staff were lovely. Sadly we Won't rush back as better places nearby.

Lovely eating place very clean.menu poor not much choice, ordered one child's meal which said comes with free soft drink asked for orange and lemonade to be told that drink isnt included in the deal but fizzy orange is listed in soft drinks, ordered lime and lemonade which had soda instead of lemonade so that went back, meals came children's meal was fine but chips were bit cold but not a problem for a child another meal hotdog and chips could of been hotter but again for a child was fine,we then had burger in bun which was pink in the middling and totally freezing and BBQ chicken wings which were freezing aswell we had waited 40 mins for these meals, the two meals got sent back so the children one of which is autistic ate their food and started getting bored whilst we waited another half an hour for our meals, when our meals came the food was lovely such a shame about the first order, the girl didn't charge for the two adults meals but if the meals had been perfect the first time I would of been happy to pay,on the way out I spoke to my daughter and her boyfriend who were on a different table and again had waited thirty mins for food when I had left a member of staff went upto their table and asked them if they knew me and what I was saying to them which I found was disgusting service, anyway if our food the first time round was as good as the second we wouldn't have had a problem

Have been to this restaurant a number of times on trips into York and always had a reasonable meal. Hadn't been for about a year but returned today for what will be the final time. The fact that it was virtually empty at 1pm on a weekend 10 days before Christmas, and nobody with any food should have warned me something was up.
Firstly, it's had a redecorate, completely sapping any atmosphere from the place. In addition, each table has an overhead lamp so large and low you have to strain to avoid it when sitting down.
That could have been forgiven if the service had been any good. A girl vaguely grunted as she directed us to a table. A "Christmas" menu was offered up - a siingle laminated page of only a few burgers and chilli, not the usual larger menu. When the food came, it was fine, although we would have eaten anything brought to us after nearly 45 minutes of waiting with only 2 other tables being served!
No dessert was offered so we left. This place is correctly going about commiting financial suicide which in the current climate is no way to run a business. Avoid avoid avoid!

Booked this place expecting an American diner style experience but so disappointed. Table booked for 8pm on York's busiest weekend of the year expecting the place to be similarly busy, but no & that should've rang the alarm bells.
Menu was a very limited St Nicholas Fair special and we ordered drinks/meals at 8.10 but then waited until 8.55 until food arrived, yes the quality was reasonable but the unexplained delay was poor. No hot drinks available, and bill included two items we didn't order.
Overall we got the impression that the staff simply didn't care. As regular visitors to York we will give this place a wide berth in the future.
