“What a Find!”
Reviewed 24 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Was going to a friends wedding in Copmanthorpe, just south of York, and wanted to stay somewhere that was only a short taxi ride from the venue. Imagine my utter joy then when I found this little treasure using Google earth!
Looked up their web-site and was all ready to rent a caravan when I saw that they also had 6 self-catering cottages - the largest being for 6 people.
We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years, all found on the usual well known and trusted sites - but this has got to be one of the best.
Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped - right down to dishwasher tablets for a dishwasher that I didn't even know was going to be there, (if you are a woman, you will know how happy I was about that!)
The location was excellent, The Ship Inn pub is a 5 minute walk and serves really good food, and the surrounding area was beautiful for a walk along the River Ouse - not to mention York Designer Village which was a 10 minute drive. We didn't make it into York itself as that was not the purpose of our stay - but I would recommend you to stay here in a heart beat if you didn't want to stay in the city centre.
I'm almost scared to say what value for money it was to stay here as the owners may put their prices up - but do the comparisons yourself and you decide.
Lastly, I would just like to thank the owners, Steve, who made us feel very welcome when we arrived, and Alison, whom sadly I did not meet, but who sounded Iovely when I spoke to her on the phone and by e-mail, and made our booking effortless.

“Just what we were looking for”
Reviewed 18 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

Just returned from a two night stay in Cowper Cottage at Chestnut Farm. The cottage was lovely and had all the facilities we needed. The owners were wonderfully helpful and friendly. York city centre is just a short drive. I am sure we will return and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

“Everything you need with friendly service!”
Reviewed 2 January 2013 for a stay in December 2012

We staid in the Pinfold cottage by pure luck! The cottage was fairly modern, clean and spacious which allowed us to have a "home" environment on a fairly long trip. The only thing missing was our dog!
The caravan park (where the cottage was located) is very close to a park and ride area which meant that it was very cheap and convenient parking, and a short bus ride into York. So great location!
The caravan park owners are super friendly people with fantastic service. I'm guessing that we were there at a not too popular time of year - so there were few people at the park iteself.

“Very comfortable and convenient for York”
Reviewed 9 November 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent a long weekend over the August bank holiday at Chestnut Farm in Ferry Cottage. I stumbled upon the cottages at the end of a fairly fruitless task trying to find self- catering accommodation in York itself (either booked or too expensive) and I'm so glad I did. The cottage was well-equipped, warm and comfortable and my kids loved the chance to sleep in bunk beds for the first time. We drove into York a couple of times, braving the high parking fees but I thought it was worth it for the convenience and the amount of stuff we managed to do while we were there. We also caught the river boat into the city which takes around an hour and goes past the Archbishop of York's palace and had a lovely last night dinner at the pub on the river in Acaster Malbis (5 mins walk from the cottages). While in York we did Jorvik twice, Valhalla, the Railway Museum, York castle museum and prison, walked the walls, Mickelgate bar museum....and best of all an evening ghost tour - absolutely brilliant.! We also had a day at Eden Camp near Maltby which was great. I would thoroughly recommend these cottages - Alison was so friendly and keen to share her local knowledge. We also had towels provided which was great. We will certainly return - although perhaps not over the Ebor race weekend! Having said that, it was the best people-watching experience I've had for a long time, the outfits were "out there" and the general state of disarray as late afternoon moved to early evening was hilarious!
