Based on the value for money from our last visit, we visited again to take advantage of a 20% discount from the mailing list but we went at lunchtime on this occasion. It was far quieter with plenty of space and the service was much better with a timely satisfaction check. We both had ribeye steak and it was well cooked though it lacked any garnish or vegetables. It had an extremely good BBQ sauce on the side. A coffee we ordered was unfortunately forgotten but arrived with adequate apologies when we complained. We had a portion of onion rings and a portion of cajun onion rings and both were good quality and tasted good. A couple of pints of Timothy Taylor's Landlord bitter went down well, too. When the Quakerwood is not too busy it really is quite good

We visited Quaker wood for a meal whilst staying nearby on an overnight trip to York, We have a Flaming Grill Local to where we live so we thought Quaker Wood would be of the same great standard but unfortunately it didnt seem to be. The staff at the bar were fantastic and took our orders and provided great service to us but unfortunately the service slipped slightly during the meal, We ordered food and as we know at flaming grills the portion sizes can sometimes be small and not served with veg or a garnish etc, so ordered extra. The cajun onion rings were inedible as the onion rings werent cooked well and just had cajun powder sprinkled all over which made them taste undercooked and powdery so we left these. The food was incredibly greasy, For saying its a grill pub it seemed everything had only seen the deep fat fryer not a grill. We waited to speak to someone but no-one arrived, and no staff were seen to wave them over. So unfortunately we left unhappy. A trip to the tesco across the road provided us with dessert and a bottle of wine to take back to the hotel as we couldnt get the service in the pub.

Birthday night out so went to what is my local restaurant. Not impressed with the many TV screens showing sport, but at least there was no important football match this night so the sound was turned down. We picked a table tucked away from the screens but found it very cramped. On ordering, we were warned of a waiting time of 30 minutes minimum - but they have said this to us whenever we have visited before, and luckily we only waited 15-20 minutes or so, so not at al bad. It is a cheap and cheerful, good value family restaurant with sizable portions but for this there is the trade off of having large family parties with loads of kids running around. I ordered the Sizzling Challenge at £8.99 which was a Burger with two 8oz beef patties, onions, two chicken breasts, a (not so hot) spicy beef chilli, two bacon rashers and onion rings in a huge bun with chips - and it was far too much !!! We asked for some water at the beginning of the meal but it never arrived and we didn't get a waiter for a satisfaction check or anyone to clear nearby tables so we couldn't ask anyone for the water unless we went back to the busy bar area. A waiter magically arrived to clear away when we finished the meal - but too late to bring us water. All-in-all it was excellent value for money - but at the expense of comfort and peace and service.

We visited this pub restaurant because it is fairly local. The last time we had visited the Quaker Wood had been on the occasion of its refurbishment when it was transformed into a sizzling pub. At the time we visited it following the changes, we were very disappointed by the menu alterations which we personally considered were detrimental in comparison with the pub's previous offerings and for many months we decided not to eat there again. However, we were passing last week and thought that we would give it another try. What a difference! The menu was much improved. There were designated meal nights (in addition to the main menu) which offered extremely good value for money. But what is a constant delight at this restaurant, is the ever friendly staff. On each occasion when we have eaten here, we have enjoyed exemplary customer service and a friendly reception from all the staff even though they appear to be ever changing. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff even supply items that are not listed on the menu, for example cream instead of ice cream for the puddings, without a moment's hesitation or displeasure at the request! All staff must receive excellent customer service training. We will definitely be eating here again. Highly recommended and very good value for money. The only gripe I had, was that there was food on the floor under one table which took about half an hour to clear up, but apart from that the place was very clean and we spent a very enjoyable evening here.
