“Could be better situated”
Review of Yorkshire Wheel - CLOSED

Reviewed 29 August 2013

The Yorkshire Wheel is a scaled down London Eye, only 60 metres tall. It is situated in the grounds of a hotel on a temporary basis and I understand only until 13th Sept 2013 when it will be dismantled.
The ride itself is perfectly good, but even at its highest point you have a good view of the railway station, the river and across the old York Wall the Minster. There is nothing else that captures the imagination on the skyline. The wheel rotated 4 times, but the commentary only lasts two. I suspect the extra two revolutions give the photographer the extra time to get the expensive souvenir packs ready for departing guests. Better located, this would be more interesting.

This was fine, from a distance thought it was similar to the London eye. Not such a smooth ride, as the wind was blowing and the cabin (if that is what you call it) was moving a little! Saying all that the views were stunning and you can see for miles on a clear day. Yes I would recommend, not great for those who do not like heights!!

Great on a clear day thankfully. The carriages are air conditioned and have volume controlled commentary. Very expensive for a small amount of time and not good value.

Decent views but not really tall enough. A well made piece of hardware in attractive grounds. Nice audio especially if you are new to York but the duration and price are way out of line. Three rotations taking a rough 10 minutes. I was told that it took 13 minutes but that must have included queuing and then getting off to be sold your own image.

Way too expensive and quite a short ride. Would not do this again.

On a clear day, a trip around the York wheel is a half decent thing to do offering good views of the city - however, at £8.50 per adult and a fiver a child, it does not represent value for money on what is after all a glorified fairground ride for 10 minutes - nothing more than yet another tourist trap intent on removing the maximum amount of money from your wallet.
