Visited York recently and as this attraction was included with our York Pass (a must!! if you are spending more than one day in york and want to visit all the main attractions)

as it was quite a busy day we couldn't get straight in and had to book a later slot and wait about forty minutes, as its located right next to the shambles this wasn't too bad as we had a look around the shops while we waited.

We were in a group of about twenty including quite a few children and we were led through Yorks 'chocolate story' by a lovely tour guide who was very good. Free samples in every room aswell which was excellent. The whole tour is very interesting and informative.

Then we got to the end room. . .as we were entering the group before, the group before us was just leaving (not a typo) so there was a fair few people crammed into this room, which with all the people, two different talks going on and the children loosing interest it was very noisy.
i think the contributing factor was the heat, as this was the room where you make your own chocolate bar, and the chocolate was not setting as it usually would and this was delaying progress of the tours. I think we were in the last room for about half an hour to forty minutes just waiting about for other tours to leave and for chocolate to set.

I would hope that, as this is a new attraction they will learn from mistakes this year and have this problem rectified by next year as it really did spoil what would of been an otherwise very fun attraction.

Hello and thank you for leaving a review. Great to hear that you enjoyed the tour!

We’re sorry that you found the end slightly hectic. Often people like to stop at the end of the tour to speak to our chocolatiers, which is why it might have become slightly congested. You are quite right about the bars too. Occasionally on very hot days when we have lots of guests, they do take slightly longer to set in the heat. We are looking address this issue by getting a new cooler for the bars.

Again, apologies that your tour was delayed and thanks again for leaving such a positive review on the whole, it is much appreciated.

Something different in York, lovely story, samples of course we're welcome, and that you get to make your own. Just slightly let down on feeling a little rushed from room to room

our tour guide was called Mark and he was very knowledgeable and made the tour good fun,if you like chocolate you will really like this tour as everyone gets plenty of chocolate to sample and eat during the tour, the information about the chocolate factories and audio about life in the 1930's and 40's in york was also very interesting,at the end of the tour you also get to make your own chocolate bar,a very enjoyable tour which lasts approx 1 and a half hours.

We visited this attraction in the centre of York and had a great time. The tour was interesting & informative for all ages from say 8 upwards. Our guide (Dougie) was smashing & hit just the right note in his delivery - credit to him.
It is situated on Kings Square at the end of the Shambles so is easy to find.
I would advise booking in advance in summer hols but beware we had trouble trying to book online due to their website.
