We were able to park in the NCP car park literally round the corner -really easy. A bonus in York! Only £20 for two days' parking. All the staff were very obliging even when we found that our room hadn't been set up as requested for four people-when we returned in the evening it had all been done for us. Breakfast was a very pleasant buffet with both full English and cold options available -all self service which I prefer as it's much less intrusive than people hovering. Central location which couldn't be much closer to the main attractions. Nice and warm, clean and secure. Not fancy, but great value for money and all staff delightful.

Imagine my surprise on turning up at 13.00 with a heavy bag to the hotel only to find they had nowhere to store bags. As an alternative I was offered early booking in to a room for £10. Not wishing to carry a heavy bag around for 2 hours I paid up. The thought struck me that as the room was available why could they not do a good bit of customer care and give me the room early? Alas the receptionist said it was not company policy.
The room was scruffy with the sofa shown distinct sings of wear, see photo. On washing my hands the soap was about as small and thin as I have ever seen in a hotel.
Not very satisfactory Travelodge!!

Thank you for your review Holidayjustice. Regrettably we do not have storage rooms and are therefore unable to offer storage facilities for our guests; we do however offer an early check in or late check out service at a £10.00 charge. The standard check in time in our hotels is 3pm although we do ensure some of our rooms are ready from 12 noon for our guests who wish to check in early. We are sorry to learn you were unhappy with the sofa bed on this occasion; we expect our sofa beds to be in a good condition and our feedback will be shared with our hotel staff which will help support any improvements that need to be made.

The location is good as it is on the river and just over 5 minutes walk to centre. Parking not very convenient, have to pay and it is about 5-10 minutes away. Welcome was great, friendly, helpful and efficient. Rooms just okay, mattress terrible, everything else standard trace lodge but even for them was tired and dated.
Overall you get what you pay for and if you want a cheap room in a fairly central location this is fine.

Thanks for your review nikki o, we have recently freshened up the whole hotel with a full makeover and put a brand new ‘Travelodge Dreamer’ pocket sprung kingsize bed in every room. It is regrettable to learn you found the mattress uncomfortable although we are aware that all of our guests have different preferences. Thank you for your feedback.

My wife and I stayed for two nights this week with four other friends in a total of four rooms.
Apart from one friend we were able to book early and got very good rates. The hotel is just west of the river close to the middle of the three main bridges over the Ouse and a few minutes walk from the city centre. We were on the front of the hotel but very little road traffic overnight.

Suspect room had been recently refurbished; bathroom fine with large walk in shower. Good new double bed and good pillows but it seemed as if it had replaced two twin beds. Bedside tables were quite unreachable from the edges of the bed. Trailing cables on the floor with a pair of very high up bedside lamps which were not individually switched (despite their being a spare switch on the block of three). Only other light in room was a fluorescent over the hanging rack which substituted for the wardrobe. Minimal furniture as seems to be the norm in Travelodges these days. Didn't know it was formerly a Ramada place until I saw the Trip Advisor heading just now.

Only one of us had breakfast, £7.95 I think but a discount for pre-booking. Rest of the team used the Punchbowl Wetherspoons pub up the road at Micklegate itself and got the usual excellent value for money of a Spoons breakfast.

We were leaving York by train at the end of our third day and our major disappointment with the Travelodge was that they refused to keep our bags (only small rucksacks) for us during the day. I have left bags after checkout at many many Travelodges and have never been refused before, indeed never at any hotel. Receptionist told us there was a left luggage on platform one of the station - there isn't any more. Only such facility is an old container in the car park of one of the car rental firms which charges £5 a day per item even for said small rucksacks. We declined and carried our bags all day.

Thank you for your review Mothmith. We are sorry to learn you were unhappy that the hotel didn't offer any luggage storage facilities, this has been decided based upon recommendations from the Police, we do however provide a early check in and late check out service for £10.00, this enables you to check out of the hotel at 2pm. Thank you for your feedback.

This is the most expensive and poorest travel lodge I have stayed in. We had one towel between two and when I ask reception they said that it's normal to share!!!!! I had paid over £80
The bathroom smelt gross and was masked by air freshner!
Overall very very poor
Would never use again the only good thing was location
