This hotel was advertised as being recently refurbished on the website..I know it's a Travelodge and not a 4* hotel, but I was not expecting paint peeling from the walls, the air conditioning unit coming away from the wall and what can only be described as a 'tatty' public area with green tape holding the floor together and furniture which was in a state of disrepair. Very centrally located, and certainly cheap, but fell short of minimal expectations.

I have stayed in this hotel with my husband twice. The only reason I stayed twice is because after the first poor experience we received a discounted rate.

On the first stay the double room we had had only one pillow, one towel and whilst there was a kettle there were no teabags to make a drink!

On our second stay the enquiry staff were unhelpful and inept. We had travelled from another city and hoped that we could check into our room slightly earlier than the check in time, to be told that it was not possible. As we were carrying our luggage we requested a place to deposit the bags until we could check in and were told that there was no such facility! Extremely unhelpful and inconvenient.

During the early evening the floor we were on seemed to be the family corridor, with children running up and down corridors and banging on doors. And by night the same corridor was alive with at least two groups of rowdy drunken women who began causing problems trying to wake up the children who had been noisy earlier that evening. That in turn sparked an argument with one of the parents and the females. A staff member was heard trying to reason with the drunken women but without success, this was all going on at around 2.30-3am. A frightening experience when people are screaming, shouting and threatening each other at that time when you are trying to get some sleep. Nothing was said the next day. It seems like such a stupid idea to place families on the same corridor as a hen party (as that's what the groups of women sounded like).

I won't be staying here again.

i went to stay here a couple of weeks ago, when we arrived they said the room was not ready though we arrived on time . the room had an ok view of the cathedral but below were the air conditioning chimneys so very noisey if you wanted the window open.
On entering i knew it had not seen the vac there were crumbs all over the floor and when the door closed behind the door the length of it and a 6" width thick dust. The shower had black mould in the silicon and in the edges of the door the door just needed a bit of elbow grease, there was also a big hand print on the mirrow. i understand they have alot of work to do but if its kept on top of standards remain high ,I felt a quick check by the staff as a opening the door and looking to see if the beds done is not good enough Cleanliness is the key for a good write up and for guests to return, the friendlines of the staff was very good so was all other aspects.

This is a very clean and friendly Travelodge. It is conveniently located for easy access to the city centre and a good variety of eating places nearby. Clearly recently refurbished, with a very comfortable bed. The walk in shower was also very powerful. Our room was at the rear of the hotel, so there was no noise from the main road at the front. There was also a bus stop right outside for the university. It was excellent value for money, particularly when the rooms are at the sale rate . Booking the breakfast on line was also discounted. Great 44% discount rate at the nearby NCP car park, which was locked at 10pm.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter

Travelodge was excellent. Very good value for money. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and the bathroom excellent with hot running water in a walk in shower. Very central for all attractions in York.

This is the first time we have stayed in a Travelodge rather than a Premier Inn, choosing to stay here because the base price is around £30 cheaper than the local Premier Inn. However, when we turned up after travelling up from King's Cross on the train an hour before our check in time, it became evident why the price is a little cheaper. Unlike most hotels, you had to pay an extra £10 for luggage storage, which is a pain. When we then arrived back later after a nice day out in York we went up to our room. When it came to sleeping, two people slept in a raised double bed, one on a raised single and the other on a painfully uncomfortable mattress on the floor. The breakfast the next morning was pretty good and staff were helpful enough but problems like the beds and lack of shower gel or shampoo in the bathroom meant that this stay was a slight disappointment.

Stayed in the hotel a couple of times. Staff have always been friendly. Although it is a central location I have never had any noise complaints. The rooms are clean and spacious. The town is a stones throw away so parking is with the NCP but you get a great discount on this giving a close start point for exploring, meaning you can make the most of your stay. If you want a fair priced hotel as a base for travels this is ideal!
