“Great Location”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Chose to stay in a Travelodge as we expected the rooms to be at least clean and tidy and we weren't bothered about anything luxurious as it was for a hen party.

We were a group of twenty girls and the majority of our rooms were supposed to be set as family rooms so as to sleep three. However, when we checked in many of our rooms were not set as family rooms; a number of them didn't even have a sofa bed to set for the third person. One member of our party, a pregnant woman, had to carry all her bedding etc. up to the room herself. One of the guys on reception very kindly moved some sofa beds from other rooms for us. As we walked down the corridor to one of the rooms there was an overwhelming smell of cat wee, when we opened the door to the room we were overcome by the smell and so refused to stay in there. The window had been left wide open so it seems obvious to assume that the cleaners were well aware of the smell. We were told that there were no other rooms for us to stay in as they were overbooked, however when they couldn't find us another hotel to stay in they managed to find us another room. The carpet in this room was soaked through where the air conditioning had been leaking but we were beyond caring at this point as it had gotten late and we had already had to get ready in other girls' rooms.

When we spoke to the manager the next day she was very rude and not very understanding. After a struggle we were partially refunded for all of the rooms that had problems in, which we were very grateful for, but we would have liked an apology from the manager rather than an arrogant attitude. There seemed to be other people complaining at reception with similar problems to ours. I can appreciate that it was a busy bank holiday weekend, however, would have expected the rooms to have been set properly as had been confirmed before our arrival and the problem with the smell to have been dealt with before we reached the room.

Stayed here on a Stag weekend, so not the usual stay i'm used to.
The staff are very friendly, rooms clean and all in all very good value for money.
Position is great, there is also a good sized bar with reasonable prices in the lobby.
All in all, great value for money, location great and very friendly staff.

We went to york and stayed at the travelodge at Micklegate in April. We went last year and we weresuprised to see it had been refurbished. The reception staff were polite and the room was lovely. All freshly painted and so bright and clean. It was an ideal place to lay our heads for the night. There is a weatherspoons next door where we had breakfast and tea. The walk into york itself was only a few minutes walk which was ideal when you have a 5 year old in tow!!! Overall our stay was great with no noise and a room just across from the lift.

We stayed at the travel lodge on a hen do booked through a company. Great location and the rooms were ready and clean. As its's central it was quite noisy at night. When we returned at 1am it was like the middle of the day it was so busy! Great for what we wanted though!

The hotel is a 15 min walk into the old town of York, there are a lot of attractions to visit, I'd recommend going on a ghost tour at night, very family friendly.
York has a lot of great history to be explored.
The only negative in regards to this hotel is the parking, its first in first served, if you miss out there's only payed street parking and trust me its not cheap.

Room Tip: The biggest tip I could give you in regards to this hotel is arrive on check out time and secure you...

The travelodge is in a great location - just over the bridge at Micklegate.

Reception was clean and bright. Biggest problem was with the room - we booked for 2 adults and 2 children but when we checked in there were no beds etc for the children. They offered us another room above it as there was one sofa bed made up in this room and they would only need to make up one, but when we went to it the room was very tired looking with brown paint marks all over the window and frame - so we went back to the original room and asked them to sort the beds in there.

The rooms are very small - with the pull out childrens beds there was no room at all to walk around in the room, but we could slide it under the sofa during the day.

There is no storage at all - which made it difficult for us as a family of 4 for a few days - just 2 very small bedside shelves and some hangers on a coat rail. No where to store overnight bags.

The room was very hot and the air con did not work. Also, the bottom of the towel rail had come away from the wall.

That all said, the staff were generally helpful and friendly and the location was brilliant.

The breakfasts were good value-kids eat free-no serviettes any day we were there, they had run out ! But you don't eat those :)

Next door was a lovely Italian restaurant with great value food and very family friendly if you are looking for anywhere to eat.

We travelled by train - and its just a 5 minute walk from the station, 5 minutes walk from the city walls (lovely walk) and 3 minutes from the town - so great place to stay.

Great value for money - excellent location. Close to all of the historic sights with fabulous bars and restaurants within a minutes walk both ways (and very late night chip shop) but not noisy. You can easily walk from the train station - around 5 mins (if you don't stop for a refreshment enroute ;-).
