Here's a summary: No AC on warm summer day, noisy night club below, no drawers or wardrobe (peg in wall to hang clothes), 3 ou body wash for ALL your body cleaning/ shampooing needs for ALL guests, no hair dryer in room, no phone to call reception, and they did not clean the room between days. No fresh towels. Ran out of TP. Paid 300 quid for 2 nights in July! How do you spell SUCKER?

There is no car parking at this hotel. You will pay through the nose for overnight car parking at the nearby NCP (£18 per night). York has no parking on any local roads overnight. Bottles are collected from the rear of the hotel at 7.30am so be ready for loads of noise. Finally, you cannot leave your bags at the hotel after check out so you have to carry all your luggage with you around York. As York is a tourist destination surely the hotel could provide a baggage room for guests!?? The reception would also only give us one key card for the room because they said they were "running out of cards".

We chose this Travelodge since it was close to the train station. However, when we arrived early we found that there was a 10 pound charge for early arrivals, so we walked back to the train station, checked out bags there, and visited the York Railroad Museum until we could check in. When we got to the room we found that the AC had been removed even though the instructions for its use were still on the wall, and 2 of the 3 lights in the bath were out. The desk said that the room had an electrical problem and the lights could not be fixed. There was only one electrical outlet that had to be shared with a cooling fan and the water kettle, and there were no storage shelves for clothes. Guess one was expected to live out of your suitcase, except there was no place to put them, either. The room was cheap, but very inconvenient.

8 guests booked to stay here for 1 night to enjoy the Tour De France and I have to say it was pretty brutal. No air-conditioning working in the rooms while it would have been more comfortable sleeping in a sauna. Un-helpful reception staff with the common answer of "there is nothing we can do"

I think on checking out I heard at least 4 or 5 families ask for a refund on a 2nd nights stay due to the poor condition of the rooms and the heat in the building.

We had one guest check out and return to the Marriott in Leeds which was £80 less for a night

£200 was simply a rip-off for this hotel for 1 night, get a grip Travelodge

Room Tip: avoid all the rooms, just don't stay

Great place to stay if you want to be in centre of york, car parking reasonable. No Air conditioning in room so was very very warm, fan helped abit but had to open a window but then you could hear the noises outside, (busy street).

we had a large room over looking the parish night club..however it seemed fully sound proof and i didnt hear anything. We parked in a local car park just around the corner in a multi storey. The rooom and bed was clean. we didnt have breakfast so I cant comment on that but the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was not busy and this hotel is in an excellent location for York centre. Possibly consider a taxi if your going to races but it is walkable (I wouldnt recommend walking in heels though).

Upon arrival at the hotel we were given the key to our room but when we let ourselves in there we actually walked in on an elderly couple. The reception staff were no help and said the hotel manager needed to speak to us.

Once the hotel manager arrived we were told there had been damage to our room so we would have to stay elsewhere - this was obviously a lie as the same thing happened with 2 other rooms in our party. The manager then lied and said she had been trying to contact us all day, when we showed her the lack of missed calls on our mobiles she admitted she hadn't.

When we agreed to move to the premier inn down the road the manager supposedly ordered us taxis to take us there and then she left for the day. 30 minutes later no taxis arrived and the guys on reception new nothing about this. So we walked to the premier inn with very heavy bags...it turned out that the travelodge manager hadn't booked us in there at all! The premier inn staff were lovely and called travelodge to authorise our stay, but once again the reception staff there were no help at all and even hung up the phone!

The moral of the story is never book this hotel, book the premier inn down the road as it's much better!
