Hotel location is good. Room clean. No aircon and room temperature can get uncomfortable in summer. Bathroom sink not practical. No luggage storage available so cost me 15 UK pounds to store bags at station.

well where do i start!- room opposite nightclub across road, no air conditioning except for fan which ran all night, you couldnt keep windows open for ventilation due to noise - sleepless in york!, bar are very un-inviting with plastic seats et al, will stick with Premier Inn (stayed night before & was 10x better!)

I don't usually write complaints, but this angered me so much I feel obliged somewhat!

This week we stayed at the York Central Micklegate Travelodge in a family room with our two small children and had an extremely unsatisfactory stay. Firstly, I must state that we were not expecting much, but at least a basic level of customer service and quality room. We were greeted by a less than helpful member of staff, as we had arrived on an early train for check in, so thought we would be able to leave our bags (like most hotels, even budget ones offer), before check in, but apparently this service is not offered and were pretty much told that we would have to take our bags back to the train station left luggage (there isn't one at York station), so I had to ask about checking in early & had to pay for privilege, but still had to hang around for an hour until we could do that, obviously on check out we had to carry bags around with us for day, not easy with two children under the age of six.

Then the door entry cards never worked (we did not store near anything that would affect the magnetic strip) and constantly were re-activated and even then they were unreliable. When the lady from reception had to come up, it still did not work for her for a while, but eventually did. All she did was suggest she and shrugged that we would just have to keep trying until they did.

Then, we had no cold water on first night to shower our boys (only scalding hot & dangerous), receptionist came up again & instead offering a change of room or someone to fix it, said that it just sticks & eventually got a dribble of a shower. The next day, we had to remind staff to look at this & have no idea if this happened as it was in fact worse and we were unable to shower or use taps on sink to clean teeth, but luckily we had bottled water to use for that.

The room:

It was way too hot to sleep comfortably as a family. May I also, add Travelodge has the worst thought out family rooms, that we have ever stayed in. Especially, since it has recently undergone refurbishment.

I suggest:

1. Rooms should have ceiling fans at the very basic level, if not air con in them, rather than a tiny desk fan, when we are expected to cram 4 x overheating bodies into the tiny space!

2. There should be some type of flooring with a grip or at least bath mats, instead of the dangerously slippery floors bathroom/wet room that have been opted for. I nearly slipped twice & my children had a few actual falls.

3. Maybe ridiculous circular shaped, high glass sinks are not the greatest idea when children can't reach to actually utilise them?! Therefore I had to struggle lifting them up to use it.

4. Designing the sinks with function over style! Glass sink with all the pipes exposed, granting easy access for little hands to grab them, especially since cold water doesn't seem to exist & is only scalding hot - not so brilliant an idea. Luckily my children didn't get the chance, but I forsee this being a potential problem.

5. The room lighting was poorly thought out. There were only 2 settings: off or Stadium. Obviously in a family room you need to reduce the level of lighting when little ones are trying to sleep. In all family rooms we've previously stayed in there have been 2 or 3 lights of varying brightness so you can just leave one of the reading lights on whilst the kids are dozing off. In this room there were 2 floodlights above the bed and another one above the coat hanger. Whichever you had on the entire room was bathed in stadium levels of light immediately waking up our sleeping children. In the end we resorted to jamming a shoe in the bathroom door to allow a enough light out so that neither of us broke our necks, but without burning anyone's retinas off.

It almost feels like Ryanair of the hotel world. Needless to say this will be our first & last time of staying at a Travelodge,

Awful stay, don't bother!

Room Tip: Just go to Premier Inn!

We stayed for 3 nights with our 3 year old. Room was basic but had everything we needed in it, bedding was clean and beds super comfortable. Room itself wasnt very well hoovered and had a sort of dusty/shabby look to it overall but was pretty much fine. Good walk in shower which maintained temp well. Breakfast awful, avoid as its very expensive for a cold cooked breakfast, although there is lots of choice in the cold options (cereal/fruit/etc).
Rooms pretty quiet, had a good nights sleep (once we got 3 year old to sleep)!!
Well situated for all town centre visits.
Would stay again (but not buy breakfast).

Hotel was very clean and the staff helpful and friendly. Comfortable rooms, but unfortunately no air con so was very hot even though fans were provided. Brilliantly located (2 minute walk to town centre) and even though on a main road, couldn't hear traffic with the window closed.

I never complain, but honestly this was unlivable. There was no AC, but the main problem was there was no air flow in our room. It was miserably hot in the room - at any hour of night or day. The first man at the front desk was very rude. The other staff members we encountered were very nice and accommodating. I heard several other customers complaining about the heat and not being able to sleep. Good location, but we switched to another hotel around the corner after a couple days. If they figure out the air flow problem, it would be a good place to stay. York is amazing.

Room Tip: Ask for multiple fans.

Stayed two nights, booked two family rooms. Rooms given on opposite ends of hotel, not ideal! More like a normal double room with 2 put you up beds in....one on floor. Ok for my 9 year old, but not suitable for friends 15 year old twins!
Rooms baking. Had left fans running before we arrived which helped, but bathrooms in particular airless. Left window open but then delivery/bins done at 540 which woke us!
Breakfast good, bacon delicious! Kids free a bargain.
Rooms need a rethink......two hooks on a wall with 9 hangers between them is not a wardrobe! Nowhere to put folded stuff...know target audience is business on the cheap but for 4 people for two nights you need some clothing space! No hair drier in room..had to ask reception for drier and got one. Had very short flex which meant we had to sit to dry hair...only mirror away from the desk so needed a furniture move to dry hair! Ridiculous!
Staff pleasant but fighting a losing battle with decisions like these.......
