“good value for money”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

The staff are all very helpful and friendly, especially Lukasz on reception , and the girls in the kitchen/dining room.
Breakfast is well worth the price If you pace yourself and get in early you won't need another meal for 24 hours.
The new beds are so comfortable, I cannot recommend them high enough.
It is true that the room is stifflingly hot in this hot weather but there is not much that can be done about that in the absence of aircon ( which our room did not have ) and it didn't bother us that much.
The walk in shower is fantastic, very powerful, and spacious.
The bathroom sink needs redesigning.. it looks great but is hopeless to use.
The room was a little smaller than other travelodges in which we have stayed but perfectly adequate for 3 of us ( 2 adults and 1 child).
It is annoying not being able to turn off the lights individually.
The location is excellent, but being in the city centre there is some noise at night, we were at the back of the building and the noise intrusion was not that bad.
You have to factor into your budget the cost of parking. We left our car for 3 days and nights without using it at all, and the cost was £36.20, ie £12.00 per 24 hours.
York itself is a great place to visit, no end of things to see/do.
We hope to return again , both to York , and would have no hestiation in staying at this Travelodge again

Our experience was thoroughly adequate. Nothing great, nothing egregious... average. The location is good, just over the river from the old city center, and parking is available at a discounted rate very close by. The rate is cheap by comparison to other hotels in the city. The room was clean, and spacious. But it was also very warm, and although there was a fan, there are only a few electrical outlets and they are not close to the beds. So we had to choose between being uncomfortably warm, or opening the windows to uncomfortably loud street noise. When we arrived there was a problem encoding the key cards, and we had to be escorted to our room by staff to unlock the door with a master key, for obvious reasons we couldn't be given this master key. We also had a problem in the morning, my wife had left some medication with the staff to be refrigerated, in the morning no one knew where it was placed and it took a while to cgheck all the refrigerators in the hotel (we have done this same thing many many times at other hotes without incident). To summarize our experience with a single small word, MEH.

Terrible experience.Room was boiling hot with only an inadequate portable fan which noisily whirred all night. The room stank to high heaven. We thought we'd get drunk in order to be able to sleep.Lo and behold the bar till was playing up so we couldn't get served.

Amazing value for money. Rooms have been refurbished to a high standard, and the bathroom also is now a wet room with a fantastic shower and facilities. Only drawback is the noise from the street on a night. But to be honest they warn you about as it is right in the centre. Hardly bothered us really as we were so tired we all slept well.

Giving this hotel an average rating only because the twin beds my sister and I slept in were comfortable and the bathroom was clean. There was only one chair in the room and no place to put our suitcases. They had to go on the floor. The view consisted of 3/4 of a red brick wall, which didn't matter a lot, but just the same ... The heat was unbearable and we couldn't open the window beyond a crack to get some relief during the cooler night time hours. On a good note, it was a central location, easy to walk everywhere and to access the wall. We stayed there to save money for our next destination, which was London. Recommend it only if a good bed is desired and nothing else matters beyond saving some money.

firstly make sure you do not get put in room 229 or 227 as there is a night club directly opposite, the overall temperature in the hotel is unbearable and you cannot leave the window open due to the noise ouside, the food on offer at breakfast is very limited, fire doors are left ajar in the corridoors. it may look it but his was not value for money. go to Premier inn
