Although we have stayed at this hotel on several occasions in the past, this was the first time we had arrived when the river was in full flood.
The usual entrance was closed so entered from the rear of the hotel. We had booked parking but as the car park was flooded we were given a ticket for the same rate in the NCP nearby.
Our river view room was comfortable although a little tired. The bathroom had been recently re-tiled and we believe the rooms are soon to receive a full refurbishment.
The breakfast was the usual buffet style with plenty of choice, if you prefer poached or fried eggs then you only have to ask.
The staff were friendly and helpful and overall made for a pleasant stay. We will be returning again.

Breakfast was lovely, can't fault that and location was perfect.
But...
We stayed here for 2 nights 15th and 16th feb. When we arrived in our room we were far from impressed. A broken bed frame. Plaster coming off the ceiling in the shower. The dust on the top of the chairs and mould on the windowsill was disgusting. The upstairs corridoors are in a square and our view looked out onto a roof of downstairs and the corridoors and other bedrooms. Which would have been fine but the roof of downstairs was covered In rubbish. We went to reception to report the bed mainly, to be told "errr cant do anythin about it til monday. Maintainance only work mon - fri n we are full so cant move you either." It wouldnt have been so bad if we had been told this politely however the attitude on this particular woman was uncalled for. And what a suprise there was no manager available. So the next morning after sleeping in a broken bed we spoke to the manager and moved rooms to room 4 a lovely room. Got abit noisy at breakfast time but other than that it was a brilliant room on ground floor with a lovely river view.
If we had been spoken to in the right manner this hotel would be ok with some improvements but with staff with those attitudes, we wont be back.

And this experience begs the question... do things only break in this hotel mon-fri?! Because surely if this is correct then our original room should not have been occupied over the weekend period.

We have stayed a few times at this hotel and it never fails. This time we had booked a river view room which was lovely as the river was flooded and we could nearly touch the water!

A few reviews have commented that the NCP car park (which the Queens offer when flooded) is not at a discounted rate, it is. If you have any problems just ask the NCP staff they are more than happy to give you a ticket for £10.

The staff are as good as ever, efficient in replying to emails (if you are in any doubt about anything just ask) and one reception, they kept our bag as our room wasn't ready. When we got back our room was lovely. A good nights sleep and a lovely breakfast, all self service.

Overall another good stay. The location is perfect, a bit of a pain with the parking but overall good.

The hotel will be so much better when the rooms have been refurbished.

Arrived at the hotel with the car park flooded, but the staff organised a deal with the NCP up the road for the same price as the Hotels car park, and only 500 yards away. The room was fine, think Premier Inn rather than Marriot, but at the P/I price, but the view was great.
We did not eat in the hotel, as we had a meal booked with friends, but the breakfast was excellent, and my request for poached eggs was no problem to the staff. Indeed this was one of the really nice things about the Hotel, all the staff were happy, and helpfull, and nothing was too much trouble.

One thing that I did find strange, they have 5 smoking rooms, although smoking is not allowed anywhere else in the Hotel. Apparently this is because it is a Private Hotel, and the Receptionist said these were very popular.

We will definitely return to the Hotel, and to York.

Room Tip: River views are worth it

This hotel has great views, is on the river. If you are after luxury or romance, look elsewhere, it offers good value and the self service breakfast is very good. We were on 3rd floor and had a double bed which was slightly soft but we got a good nights sleep. Despite some awful photos on other reviews, our bathroom had been re-tiled. There was hand wash and shower gel no shampoo etc. Not sure if that is standard or they forgot

Very friendly hotel, which offered a great deal for a family room close to the centre of York. Just husband, self & 17 year old son. Lovely spacious room, comfy beds, great location, nice breakfast. Right by the river too! Great for a short break. Top choice.

Spent 1 night(Sun 9th),I can only confirm as top class.
My wife & I gave stayed in various city centre hotels in York over the last 30 years & this is easily the best in terms of value.Great location, attentive, friendly staff, great room for the price,( only niggle was the bathroom requires better heating, but this is being addressed by the hotel)
Well done Queens for a great break, we WILL be back.
