Check in quick but unwelcoming, and you have to take and collect luggage behind reception yourself - surely disconcerting for staff, and in relation to data protection! No checking that you are taking the correct luggage, either! So security not brilliant! Everything is tired, dated, damaged etc. Room 17 double aspect, roomy for two people, lovely view and didn't find it noisy. However, it needs a refurb. Bedside headboard section falling off, patched up hole in bathroom door that looks like someone had put their fist through. Bathroom serviceable, but grouting and base of toilet stained. Shower over bath - meh! But was concerned the water would be scalding, like the sink, and as you have to reach under it to adjust the temp, could be problematic! Bed a little hard for my taste, but ok. Again, all decor tired, dated and underwhelming. reasonably clean apart from the layers of dust on the back of the headboard! Breakfast was cheap and cheerful, with toast left under the heaters, consequently like cardboard. Apple juice barely any taste and very watery. None of the cooked breakfast looked appealing to me, but my partner ate it both mornings - he has lower standards. However, coffee was good. Attempted the bar only once, barman was so offhand and borderline rude, didn't bother again, and walked up to the Tesco just over the bridge to buy a couple of drinks to take to the room, or went out for a drink. After the breakfast experience, ate out both nights - Prezzo is just 5 - 10 minutes walk away. If I hadn't bought a cheap voucher on the internet to stay here I'd have been very disappointed. On the plus side, the hotel is very well situated for access to the centre, and is ok if you a) pay cheap voucher prices and b) eat out. I would stay again if I could get a voucher. Young bearded gentleman on reception was very pleasant and helpful, as were the housekeeping staff. I would also suggest a uniform for the reception team, as not all staff members on reception dressed to the same standard! And a couple could do with lessons in customer service skills! 10+ years in hotel management makes you notice the little things!!!

Room Tip: Ask for river view room, 17 is a corner room with double aspect, plenty of space for two, but tired...

Loved the location. Central to everything we needed. (Pubs and restaurant's!) Didn't get booked in until 3.00 as they had been busy. However they did allow us to park at 12.30 and leave the car until 11.30 the following day. Giving us extra time so didn't mind at all. The lady who checked us in was very nice and polite.I would stay here again. Not luxurious but not a premiere inn! Good for a drunken weekend!

Booked a Sunday night and was a lot cheaper than Saturday it's in the heart of york, within walking distance to everything. rooms clean and bed comfortable would definitely stay again and would recommend. Had a room overlooking river and couldn't fault a thing. The parking was also free in a secure locked car park.

Stayed here for one night and had a really enjoyable stay. The hotel, by York standards provides clean comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. It was only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the train station. Even less to the pubs and shops. We enjoyed a drink in the bar which has a lovely view of the river - and on a warm summer evening anyone who likes people watching, had plenty to keep them amused. Breakfast next day was straightforward and enjoyable. The hotel is happy to keep your luggage both before and after you have checked in and out of your room. A great bonus, it allowed us more time to enjoy this fabulous city. On the whole, staff were friendly and helpful. One slight niggle with a male member of the reception team. We were leaving our bags prior to checking in and were chatting to other people we knew about what they were doing. The member of staff interrupted us and said "excuse me, are you all together?" We explained we were all friends booked independently in 3 separate rooms. To which he replied "we would not have accepted your booking if we had known you were a party - this is a quiet hotel" For some reason I felt told off - and at 47 years old, haven't felt like that in many years!!! Perhaps he was being a little 'over zealous' with the customer service thing???? If anything, it gave us something to laugh about as we sneaked back to our rooms late that night with fingers on lips.

This hotel must have the very best location for an hotel which has (limited) parking.

The room was modern, bright and spacious. All facilities, nice bathroom etc.

There is parking for a dozen or so cars, but you need to ask for staff to open the garage, and double parking means cars need to be moved to park/remove your car sometime. £10 charge for parking.
I'd stay here again.

I have been to this place in May just for a weekend paying £100 pounds and no service at all. No mini bar no room service. The staff was no welcoming. The room was alright averagely done. Experience was alright. Only plus point is it's in the town centre. Close to all the major attractions
