The location is great, the view from our window was from a skylight, so not really a river view unless you poked your head out.
The bed was comfy & the room clean.
Breakfast? Don't bother including this in your package. The staff appeared stressed at the amount of people who were coming through the door for food. The food was bland (even the sausages were flavourless & probably really cheap). The mushrooms even worse! No milk jugs for tea/coffee at your table. Coffee was pale. Hardly any service. Just hurried to our table & a knife, fork & spoon plonked down.
Have a coffee in your room, shower & head into town to find something much better tasting & possibly of better value.

This 2 night break in York was booked as a rail & accommodation package & was definitely good value for money. The hotel has a superb location & our room was very spacious. However, the bathroom was grubby with a lot of marks on the walls. There were also biscuit crumbs on the bedroom carpet which remained there despite the room being 'cleaned'. When using our tea cups on the second night it was clear that they had definitely not been washed & merely wiped as there were smeared stains still on them. Staff were pleasant enough although I felt sorry for the young lads trying to keep the breakfast queue flowing. Some parts of the hotel need freshened up as the decor & wallpaper is marked. I also found the left luggage arrangements disturbing as it is open to anyone. Despite these small niggles we did enjoy our stay & I would use this hotel again based on its location & value for money.

My husband had a conference in York and his university had booked rooms at this hotel. The minute I entered the property I was struck by the obvious lack of care....filthy entryway, walls in need of paint, carpet worn out, and, worst of all, the desk people were having private conversations about the clients!!!! The room had a gross looking dust ruffle, the curtain had a large rip, and there was a dirt streak on the comforter. I complained and brought a front desk person up to see, she agreed it needed some cleaning. Later those things were replaced, but then my husband discovered mold and a peeling ceiling in the bath. Needless to say, we moved hotels. This is truly a shame, since the hotel is located right on the Ousse River with a great view. And although some of the staff tried to be helpful, they were working against tough odds since it was obvious the owners were not investing in the upkeep of the property. Don't even think about it!

Room Tip: Don't go until they gut the place.

Check in quick but unwelcoming, and you have to take and collect luggage behind reception yourself - surely disconcerting for staff, and in relation to data protection! No checking that you are taking the correct luggage, either! So security not brilliant! Everything is tired, dated, damaged etc. Room 17 double aspect, roomy for two people, lovely view and didn't find it noisy. However, it needs a refurb. Bedside headboard section falling off, patched up hole in bathroom door that looks like someone had put their fist through. Bathroom serviceable, but grouting and base of toilet stained. Shower over bath - meh! But was concerned the water would be scalding, like the sink, and as you have to reach under it to adjust the temp, could be problematic! Bed a little hard for my taste, but ok. Again, all decor tired, dated and underwhelming. reasonably clean apart from the layers of dust on the back of the headboard! Breakfast was cheap and cheerful, with toast left under the heaters, consequently like cardboard. Apple juice barely any taste and very watery. None of the cooked breakfast looked appealing to me, but my partner ate it both mornings - he has lower standards. However, coffee was good. Attempted the bar only once, barman was so offhand and borderline rude, didn't bother again, and walked up to the Tesco just over the bridge to buy a couple of drinks to take to the room, or went out for a drink. After the breakfast experience, ate out both nights - Prezzo is just 5 - 10 minutes walk away. If I hadn't bought a cheap voucher on the internet to stay here I'd have been very disappointed. On the plus side, the hotel is very well situated for access to the centre, and is ok if you a) pay cheap voucher prices and b) eat out. I would stay again if I could get a voucher. Young bearded gentleman on reception was very pleasant and helpful, as were the housekeeping staff. I would also suggest a uniform for the reception team, as not all staff members on reception dressed to the same standard! And a couple could do with lessons in customer service skills! 10+ years in hotel management makes you notice the little things!!!

Room Tip: Ask for river view room, 17 is a corner room with double aspect, plenty of space for two, but tired...

Loved the location. Central to everything we needed. (Pubs and restaurant's!) Didn't get booked in until 3.00 as they had been busy. However they did allow us to park at 12.30 and leave the car until 11.30 the following day. Giving us extra time so didn't mind at all. The lady who checked us in was very nice and polite.I would stay here again. Not luxurious but not a premiere inn! Good for a drunken weekend!

Booked a Sunday night and was a lot cheaper than Saturday it's in the heart of york, within walking distance to everything. rooms clean and bed comfortable would definitely stay again and would recommend. Had a room overlooking river and couldn't fault a thing. The parking was also free in a secure locked car park.
