Sitting on the bank of the river Ouse, the hotel is very convenient for all of the many attractions of York. We had a very clean and pleasant room overlooking the river.
The food was ample and always of a high standard (importantly the food and plates were always piping hot).
Waiting staff were pleasant and hard-working under difficult circumstances (the restaurant area was overcrowded)
Other staff were also very pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: Front bedroom overlooking river Ouse was ideal - but very noisy because of pubs opposite. Window had to be open because it was very hot - take ear plugs

We had read other reviews before arriving at the Queens for a 5 day coaching tour. On arrival we were very impressed with check in and when we saw the room we were amazed. The room was large, very well decorated and spotless. The only downside was the lack of air con or fan in hot weather.
The meals were great and the staff were extremely helpful. The head waitress was exellent and kept her head when dealing with a very difficult customer.
We will return soon.

Room Tip: Front has views over the river but can be noisy from the bars on the opposite side

We went to York for a couple of days midweek break recently and chose The Queens for its location. We had stayed before late last year. From past experience we chose not to partake of the buffet breakfast as it had been a bit of a disaster last time. Also, there are quite a few places to get a decent breakfast just across the bridge.
Unfortunately the weather was very hot and the hotel was not geared for this.
The window only opened a little way (not enough to be of any use) and there were no fans available when we asked. This all led to a very uncomfortable couple of nights and I was glad that we were not saying longer.
I think that hotels need to have a bit of flexibility according to the weather. ie A/C
The bathroom had not been cleaned as thoroughly as it should have which I did point out to reception and this was rectified.
I would stay again but only when it is cooler.

Room Tip: Try and get an upgrade to a river facing room.

we actually won this break in a competition but I couldn't have wished for better if I had paid, The room was amazing maybe a little worn in places but it is after all an old building, we had a brilliant river view and a really comfy bed and pillows, The breakfast was very varied and you could eat as much as you like and as it was school holidays it was extended till 10 am. we had a great time people watching over the river as our room was opposite the river pub which might not be ideal for small children but there are lots of other rooms, the windows only open so far which is good for children and there are lots of geese and boats to watch on the river so a good time was had by all, car parking was £ 10.00 for 24 hrs which wasn't bad as it was secure and was cheaper than some of the city car parks although everything is quite close, so thanks to the Queens for everything.

Room Tip: rooms without a river view are best for small children due to pub noise across the river

Very clean, very comfortable and perfect location for walking to all attractions with minimal fuss. Staff are polite and very helpful. Breakfast at £8.95 didn't appeal to us with small children but there are lots of places offering very reasonably priced breakfast within minutes. It was baking hot during our visit so we opted for the Yates just across the bridge where we ate an excellent full English breakfast in their courtyard for a fraction of the price.
We were enjoying a last drink on the balcony overlooking the Ouse and miscalculated our train leaving time, but from asking reception for a taxi we were comfortably on the platform in 15 minutes!
Something to bare in mind is the free WiFi is slow - so no streaming Netflix but perfectly adequate to keep on top on Facebook!
