Booked purely on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews, never seen so many positive reviews! Not a huge fan of 'lodge' chains, OK for one night's stay when going somewhere else.
Booked on Premier website nice and easy with all needed info available.
Arrived and parked in last parking spot, parking could be a problem if you arrive late. They offer you the NCP in York RI some 150 yards away, £2.40 overnight if you leave before 9am.
Check-in was fine and allocated room was in seperate block with entry by room key that didn't always work first nor second swipe. I was quite suprised by the room. Reasonable room for 2 adults and 2 medium sized children, large TV, air con, bath/shower, drinks tray. Corperate but OK for our 4 nights, children were a little perturbed with their 'beds' appearing to be a matress on the floor but on inspection they were on a slide-out base from under the double bed.
Breakfast was excellent and politely instructed, it's buffet self service. Not a lot of tables in the restaurant area so you need to arive early or late to avoid waiting or having to sit in the bar or Costa Coffee area and therefore having a bit of a trek to get your food!
Restaurant also serves evening meals which we found to be a little plain but well cooked and served and good value.
Hotel's big plus point is it's position, opposite Mickelgate Bar, 200 yards from the railway station. You can forget the car, onto the wall go left for the Minster or go right for Castle Museum/Jorvik, 10 mins walk for both. Locally there is a Sainsbury Local/KFC/Fish and Chips/cinema all within 100 yards.
Found hotel staff to be personable and good which I didn't expect, it's a 'lodge' and it's a chain. Although it's not my prefered style of accomodation I found it hard to fault any part of the product. We had a good time in York and I think the hotel did add to it. It's informal, well maintained and reasonably priced, the staff probably do make the difference giving the place some character. Would I use Premier Inn again, not sure it wouldn't be my initial choice, would I use this hotel again, yes.

We stayed for just one night in August and had a great time in York.

We arrived well before check-in after finding the car park quite easily, due to local knowledge. It's very close to the railway station.

Having parked the car, we informed reception we'd arrived and asked if we could check into room later, the girl was very helpful and informed us that this would be fine. The free parking so close to the city centre is a great sellling point.

Upon return, we checked in and paid for the room, all went very well, and again the staff were very polite and helpful, and keen to converse and offer any advice we asked for. The room was well kept and comfortable, and we had a good nights sleep to round off a very enjoyable stay.

I'd suggest that for value in York, the Premier Inn is very competitive.

I stayed here two weeks ago with my two young children after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and I must say that I wasn't disappointed.

The location of the hotel is perfect based in the city centre. The train station is 5 mins walk where you can visit the Tourist Information Centre and buy the York Pass (which was also very good value). Everywhere else is walkable, no need for buses, cars or taxis

Breakfast was always plentiful and they has the usual variety of english and continental. We always tried to get to the restaurant before 9amm and there were never any queues and the staff were always helpful.

The room and bathroom were clean and functional with the biggest bed I'd seen in any hotel room. The only niggle is that most of the TV channels weren't working which meant the children couldn't watch any kids channels and had to make do with BBC1 and Dave!

The only real downside was car parking. I arrived at 11am and grabbed the last parking space but parking is an issue as some people had to park at the nearby NCP - not good if you have a fair bit to unload.

On the whole - a good choice and highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Premier Inn in York city centre at the end of July. It was a great location as it was very central, and reasonably priced. The rooms were of a high standard - probably the same as most other Premier Inns, but as good as a Hilton etc.
It has a Costa Coffee cafe near reception and a restaurant at the front of the hotel, which was decent enough. I had a lamb dish, and I was surprisingly impressed. There are other restaurants nearby (including a lovely Italian restaurant), and a bus stop for the hop on/off City Bus Tour which we found very useful to find our way around.
Only complaint would be that WIFI in the rooms is a bit dear. We were worried about parking before we went as we had read it can be really busy, but although the car park was small, we got a space easily, and left our car there for the rest of the weekend anyway. The hotel is located near the train station too, so it's ideal if you are travelling by train. I would happily stay here again.

Ive just recently returned from York and we possibly stayed at the best hotel in the city .The staff upon our arrival which was 2 hours before the stated booking in time informed us they would look after our luggage so me and my wheelchairbound wife could explore the city until our room was ready . Upon returning to book-inthey were most helpful as our bed was a little low but they rectified the problem right away . Whenever you saw a member of staff they would ask you if they could help in anyway and they certainly know how to make your stay at this hotel just wonderful.

Decided to book the premier inn york city centre for a weekend away with my husband after reading the reviews on trip advisor.

We arrived at 3pm on the Friday and had no trouble finding a parking space.

The room was very clean and spacious with one of the biggest beds i have ever slept in.

We were in the building at the back of the main building, i had emailed the hotel a few days before our arrival and asked for a quiet room which was exactly what we were given.

We would definately stay here again next time we are in York.

Please be warned do not smoke in the rooms as the smoke alarm does go off which some nice guest decided to do at 7.45am sunday morning!!!!!

Recently returned from a family visit to York wiith a teenager and a younger child. Stayed at the Premier Inn in York City Centre. This is a great hotel for location plus you always know what kind of room you will get! A 10 minute walk into the middle of York with lots of shops, restaurants and pubs along the way (you will never go hungry in York). Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Great all you can eat breakfast for £7.95 per adult with the kids eating free. Had dinner in the hotel one night. Very enjoyable. There are two additional outer buildings which also have rooms. Some other reviewers didn't like this and would prefer to be in the main hotel building. I did not think this was a problem as it was only a quick few seconds walk to the main building. Perhaps older guests may bear this in mind though...
For teenagers who can't do without the internet there are facilities in the reception area but we chose to pay £20 for the week to have internet access in our room (a small price to pay!). There are so many things to do in York that was suitable for all ages. The Castle Museum is a great way to spend an afternoon. We haven't walked so much in ages. Despite being in York over 20 years ago this was the first time we had 'walked the wall'. Both kids were quite happy and reluctant to leave. A good sign indeed. No doubt we shall return and we will not hesitate to repeat our stay at the Premier Inn.
