Bishops is an extremely friendly family run guest house. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, the 'meet and greet' was exceptional and we felt relaxed from that moment right through our stay. The breakfasts were fantastic with both a buffet of cereals, juices, yogurt, fruit and a beautiful fresh fruit salad and a hot breakfast menu, all cooked fresh to order, and really tasty. The owners took time to recommend restaurants and places to see and even booked taxis for us...nothing was to much trouble. We will definitely be returning.

A building of a bygone era that's had the inside tastefully brought up to date. Don't be mislead by the rather drab looking exterior, as the interior is extremely nice.

Debbie's greeting couldn't have been more pleasant, so we were off to a great start.

The room was tastefully decorated (at a guess in the not too distant past), pleasant and clean but it could have done with being a little bit bigger, with a more comfortable chair.
The en-suite was very nice but the hot water took quite some time to arrive.

Our room overlooked a very pleasant back garden and as a consequence we had a very quiet night and as the bed was very comfortable we had a great nights sleep.

The range of options on offer at breakfast was excellent and in the main everything was to my liking but the bacon was a bit hard (I suspect it had been cooked prior to my order) and one of the eggs was hard and looked like it had been bounced on the floor, before being put on my plate. However, after pointing out the sorry state of the egg to the extremely efficient waitress, I was promptly provided with a perfect replacement.

The less than perfect aspects didn't warrant deducting a whole point but I couldn't deduct half, so I had no other option. I would certainly stay there again and I'd recommend it to anyone reading this review.

For anyone with limited mobility, there are a good few stairs to climb to most of the rooms and no lift but they have one ground floor room.

Thanks for all your positive comments and for taking the tome to review your stay with us, both eggs in fryer at same time so apologies for the firmer one, glad its replacement was good. The 1st floor room you had is one of our smallest but not cramped, it so popular and quiet with a lovely view and I am pleased you had a good night's sleep. All the superior double rooms are more spacious and have sofa and some have full bathroom ensuite. Our summer hanging baskets and window boxes are ordered but still 2 weeks away from delivery I am afraid Hope the track day was good fun and that we see you again next time you are visiting York

I have never entered anything on trip advisor before but I will now! I stayed at the Bishops guest house in May 2014 for the bank holiday weekend and would recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants a guest house that is not just a bit better than the norm, but a lot better. We had a four poster room which was spacious and beautifully decorated, but that is the same for the whole house, obviously well looked after and the best we have stayed in for a long time. We was made to feel very welcome on arrival and offered many tips on how to make the most of our stay in York. Breakfast was everything you want to set you up for the day and staff friendly and helpful. When we return to York I will not look any further than the Bishops guest house.

From the minute we checked into the Bishops we felt at home, made so welcome and given info on York as it was our first visit there, we had booked a superior double room and this was on ground floor, a large bright lovely decorated room with a good sized en suite shower room , double wardrobe and full sized ironing board and iron electric fan , hairdryer everything you could wish for the towels were huge soft fluffy also bathrobes .
Breakfast was so nice with plenty of friut juices, cereals, fruit salad, yogurts, homemade jams, a good choice of cooked food freshly cooked to order, plenty of fresh coffee and tea the service was great friendly fast and efficient, nothing wss to much trouble.
The location of Bishops was ideal just 15 min walk to the railway station and 20 into the city, There is s bus that runs every 10 mins into the city centre and stops outside Bishops. We will definitely recommend this lovely B & B go family and friends .

I booked the Bishops with the hope of finding a nice quiet Guest house. Boy was i not wrong. On arrival the check in was swiftly done. We were shown too our room which was large, light and lovely and warm, with views over the garden. The location of the Guest house is a 20-30 min walk fron the centre of York or you could get a bus, which stops outside. The choice for breakfast is extensive and is made to the Bishops high standards. This was our first visit to the Bishops, but it won't be our last. I would highly recomend staying here.

This has been my second stay at Bishops. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and creatively decorated. Deborah, Marco and their staff are delightful warm and helpful. First class breakfast. I strongly recommend this small boutique hotel/guest house.

Room Tip: Both rooms I have stayed in have been quiet and comfortable. No 7 has a great view if you don't...

We stayed over Easter week end taking our daughter back to University.Stayed in annex which had 2 rooms and she stayed one night we stayed 2.Lovely and clean, pretty view of garden, and the other room was onto street.Found it nice and quiet no problem sleeping, quality comfy beds.Super thick quality towels.
Breakfast was superb, I had locally smoked salmon with scrambled egg and it was delicious, husband had full English first day and thoroughly enjoyed it, second day he tried the salmon.FOod was hot, well presented, locally sourced.A nice touch on Easter Day eggs were left for daughter.Overall exactly what we needed would stay again.

Room Tip: Annex suited us very well.
