A positive experience. Good accomodation and breakfast. Staff all polite and helpful. Our room & en-suite were newly decorated & both were spacious. The shower may need adjusting as water sprays onto the bathroom floor - the glass shower pane does not prevent this happening. (Did mention to the staff who said they would pass on the message as we were concerned about mopping up the water or leakage to the floor below). Good location for both the river and town. We enjoyed our stay and our visit to York which is a lovely town.

Room Tip: We were at the front and there is a railway line opposite but either trains were infrequent or we di...

Hedley House is a nice 3 star Hotel situated just outside the old-city walls (City Centre reachable by foot in 10 minutes or less!). The staff are friendly and courteous - there is 'limited' car parking available (FCFS). We found the room to be very nice, the Breakfast we also thought was of a very good standard. If you are looking to do the city by foot (like we did) then this is an excellent location to choose.

We have stayed here many times as we find this hotel has excellent accomodation and breakfasts, is within easy walking to the centre of York, particularly through the Museum park gardens. It is in a very quiet area too, not yet met a ghost ourselves, but ............

we booked a weekend away for our 22 wedding anniversary, initially we found Hedley House on a KGB deal but i decided to contact them directly and book, when we arrived we were greeted by two friendly ladies on reception, one of them checked us in while the other directed us to the car park and then to our room which was clean and beautifully set out for our stay.
It was just a short stroll into the town as well which was beautiful, Hedley House was an ideal base for our trip as everything was within walking distance so we never used our car during the stay, we never ate at the hotel but we plan to on our return visit sometime in May hopefully. If your looking for somewhere welcoming, warm, clean and exceptionally friendly then look no further

Room Tip: we stayed in Knowle house self catering apartments, recently renovated and very nice

We too stayed on a KGB voucher which was excellent value for money.
The car park was very busy so the receptionist helped us to squeeze the car in.
Our room was on the first floor at the rear looking out over the garden. It contained a double and a single bed and was very light. The room was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean as was the bathroom.
The bath had a shower over it with shower screen and I much prefer that Hedley House have large toiletries on the wall which can be refilled, far more eco friendly than those little bottles that everyone pinches. This is also the first hotel we have ever stayed at that observes it's towel policy. We don't use a fresh towel every day at home so we left them hanging up and true to the notice in the bathroom they were not replaced.
The only moan we had was the wardrobe was small and we are used to sleeping in a king size bed, I think this bed was a double so we had an interesting night!
It is a long time since we have stayed in such a peaceful hotel, it was so quiet and all other guests were very considerate, We were really surprised at how quiet it was and this made our stay very relaxing. There is a train line at the front but it did not disturb us.
Our hospitality tray was well stocked and replenished when we used all of the tea up.
On our first day we went down for breakfast at 9am thinking that was enough time before it finished at 9.30. Both rooms were full and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. This is no fault of the staff but I think they may have to extend the times when the hotel is busy. Breakfast is cooked to order and is excellent quality. Got to mention the homemade granola too - it was gorgeous, all toasted and crunchy.
The staff cope well, they remain helpful and friendly even when rushed off their feet. Everyone we spoke to genuinely wanted to ensure that we were happy and I think they deserve alot of credit for the busy breakfast service.
The following morning we went down first thing about 8am, there were a couple of free tables and as the day before everything was topped up by the staff when it got low.
The hotel is in a lovely location, we prefer this side of town and is only a 10 minute walk to the Minster.
Giving an honest review, Hedley House in our opinion is a very good standard 3 star hotel. The staff are a credit, the owners very friendly and it is in a quiet location with the benefit of a car park. Bearing in mind the price of accommodation in York Hedley House is reasonable, maybe a little on the high side. We usually pay about £70 per night so I am not sure we could afford to stay there on the rack rate. The owners seemed really approachable so I would probably be cheeky and ring up to enquire about a deal if we were staying more than 1 night.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear very quiet

We had two nights at Hedley House , York in March 12. It was an excellent spot for sightseeing from - just a five minute walk into town.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast package - the breakfasts were beautiful and set you up for the day!

The only down side was the noisy pipes when everone started showering in the morning - but if you want to stay in a nice old property it's a small price to pay!
