We spent three nights here on our first visit to York (and our first holiday together). The hotel is just a short walk from Bootham Bar and the city centre which made it easier to explore.
The hotel is not part of a chain which could mean anything, but Hedley House is very far frombeing Fawlty Towers. From check in to check out every part of the stay was spot on. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was clean and tidy (until we unpacked!), the breakfast choices were wide and dietary preferences well catered for. We dined in on our last night and potentially this could have been a challenge as on the precedingnights we had eaten at two excellent restaurants in York. However the meal was first class and one of the owners (who was standing in for Chef who had the night off) came to enquire whether the meal was alright. There was absolutely no need as everything was superb, but I give full credit to her coming to ask.
We are planning to come to York again and hopefully we can stay here again. York is a popular place and when racing takes place the hotels fill quickly - as one enquirer who phoned as we were checking out found out!
