“Melrose Stand”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

Have been here on a few occassions now and it gets better every time. Great service and the food is constant throughout the day - good quality also.
The seating is sometimes awkward especially if you are in a group of more than 8 who wish to sit together - but usually the staff will assist.
Great views and being able to take drinks onto the balcony is a bonus.
Initially expensive but good value overall

“Great experience!”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We visited for the last day of the season at York and it was a great day with great atmosphere! Arriving by car is very easy indeed, we got there just before lunch and the only delay getting in was due to roadworks nothing to do with the race organisation. Plenty of FREE parking close to the entrance. We had tickets for the Grandstand & Paddock area which is more than you need. You get all the access that you need, unless you want to drink in the Moet bar or the fancy restaurants (we were there to experience the racing not the champagne)! It was very busy with a large number of people getting very dressed up even though it was October, slightly damp and not that warm. It was a great atmosphere with a mix of people on stag/hen parties to families to serious race goers. Although there are large numbers of people there it is still easy to place bets, get drinks, although gents do have to queue for the loo! For the admission they charge this is a great day out...looking forward to the start of next season! Only downfall, not all my horses won...they could do with improving this!!! ;-)

“York races over crowding”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

The County Stand was extremely over crowded and was not adequately cleaned. Bar staff didn't excel in friendliness. John Smith's bitter was poor.

I suppose the poor weather didn't help with the over crowding. I wouldn't go back due to the excessive over crowding in the County Stand but the venue is overall good.

“Excellent Day at the Races but very boozy atmosphere”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

We went for our Wedding Anniversary to the Saturday of the October race meet. Signage from the ring road was excellent, car parking convenient and facilities very good even if the weather was a bit inclement.
The main stand may not be Ascot but it is still impressive on four floors even if you only pay £18 entrance for Grandstand access. Most people were making a real day of it but for us guys as we weren't drinking, it left us in the small minority. I am not sure the County Stand upgrade is necessary unless you are dining in one of the upmarket restaurants
