“Well-Worth A Visit”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

We visited on a wet, cool day and were extremely lucky to dodge the showers. Use the very clean and new toilets at the entrance before buying your ticket since there are none in the gardens. This is not a place to take someone who walks with difficulty but wheelchair access to many areas is good. There were surprises that made us smile and the June garden was lovely. We did find out why it's called Breezy Knees since the site is exposed and the contrast between this and a walled garden became obvious. We will return on a sunny day in July to enjoy the roses and herbaceous borders and look forward to seeing the September garden at the appropriate time too. Staff were friendly - didn't try the café on this visit.

“Great Day out”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

If you like gardens and gardens this is the place to visit. Beautiful gardens , 15 acres, in total and beautifully kept - not a weed in sight. Lovely cafe , but only open on certain days. Spent a happy 4 hours wondering around and bought some very nice plants (but these seemed a little expensive).

“Excellent!! (And getting better and better!!)”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We visit Breezy Knees as often as we can during the Summer. Check out their website for opening times (also the cafe only opens on certain days). We take a picnic when we go. Use the toilets before setting off to the main area as there are none in the actual gardens. Be prepared for quite a walk down to the gardens. There are several benches along the walkway and around the gardens to take a rest whenever you need one. The gardens are enormous and very, very beautiful. The range of plants is amazing. There is a Peony garden, Rose Garden, shrubbery, rock gardens, wonderful clematis and much more. The perennial garden is just wonderful!!
This place is just getting better and better year by year. Staff are helpful and cheerful (always a bonus for us). Average visiting time will depend on how much you enjoy walking around gardens. I am a keen photographer so can easily spend 3 hours. For others who are less able bodied or less into gardens...allow yourself at least an hour.
Breezy Knees also has a fantastic garden center/plant sales area. The range of plants for sale is astounding, with many that are hard to find elsewhere.
Very well worth a visit!!

“Amazing gardens”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Tucked away on the very outer fringes of York is Warthill and the Breezy Knees gardens. The gardens are a little surprising in that after leaving the car park and café, you take a walk through a field of wheat along a pathway surrounded by plants. Is this the garden? No - at the end of the field through a gate, there is a wild field of topical flowers and further on a range of formal and not quite so formal planting. Although there are always an amazing array of plants, it is perhaps at its best between June and September. Lovely stunning plants and even a small garden surrounded by a variety of conifer trees. Once you have paraded around gardens, it is time to stagger back to the nursery section, where you can buy any of the variety of plants you have just admired. You need the café at the end of this plant fest!!

“Garden visit”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Visited with friends. Beautiful day when we visited. The gardens were fantastic with plenty to see. Treated ourselves to a few plants from the nursery and a cuppa in the cafe. Plenty of parking. Worth a visit.
