“Cosy and personal B&B”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We stayed here for three nights in July. The place is very cosy and homely, and the rooms are big and decorated in an old, flowery and comfortable style. The owners are very nice people, and it was pleasant to have a little chat in the morning while serving breakfast. And the breakfas was great! There is a variety to choose from and you can pick whatever you want, and they will be sure to serve it how you prefer it. Excellent service! I was very happy with organic yoghurt and fresh fruit. Though the place is a bit dated and the rooms were a bit damp, we had a pleasing stay.

First things we noticed about York on a racing weekend was the high cost of accommodation. We stay in Leeds at the Holiday Inn and normally pay around £85 B & B, in York they wanted £140 room only. We did not have long to look around as we needed accommodation to visit family in the local hospice. We found Curzon Lodge on the net, phoned and then booked. We arrived and were shown a couple of rooms by Richard the owner. One in the main house and one in the stable block, both were about the same apart from lovely exposed beams in the stable block. We stayed in the main house as it was where we saw first and our luggage was there. It was spacious, had a double and a single bed. Bed comfy and just what was needed after a hard day traveling and visiting, slept very well. The bathroom had seen better days but was functional. There were a few small cracks in the ceiling and coving in the room and bathroom but nothing bad and it must be expected of such an old house. The house has a lot of character owing to its age and history. The house is old and in places like the bathroom could do with some sprucing up but don’t let that put you off, Richard is a super person to talk to and Wendy’s cooking is well worth the stay. We would not hesitate to stay there again if we wanted to visit the area. .
The breakfast was cooked freshly to order by Wendy, lovely, no complaints here.
Thank you Richard & Wendy

I stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights at the end of May, for a trip to the races and meeting up with friends.
Accommodation is cosey, homely and comfy, although a bit dated. But had everything we needed.
We had a stable cottage, covered in red roses, which was delightful.
Breakfast was perfect, great selection of cereals, and full English, with toast, tea/coffee and orange juice.
We thought the price for two nights, on a busy racing weekend, located so conveniently to the racecourse and only a 20/30 minute stroll into town, was fair.
Would definitely recommend, and hope to stay again!

My girlfriend and I stayed here whilst attending the races at the end of May 2014. The rooms are very cosy, quiet, warm, clean and spacious. Granted the decor is slightly dated especialy for a couple in their 20's but it had a very homely feel. The service we received was fantastic and Richard the owner was very helpful towards our needs. The location is fantastic if you are attending the races and it is a quick bus ride into the main city centre or around £5-6 in a taxi. The morning breakfast was delicious and they has a great selection to choose from. The beds are extremelly comfy but slightly on the small side, if you are over 6ft tall then you may struggle. The price of the room was a little overpriced and was increased due to the races but the distance to the races makes up for this. Overall a pleasent stay...just a shame we didn't win at the races.

spacious rooms, comfortable beds and although decor is dated - who cares! Rcihard and his wife were lovely and extremely helpful.
Best breakfast I have ever had at a B&B, poached eggs were perfect.
What a lovely place and couple.

My wife and I stayed here in April 2014, and we had stayed here nearly two years earlier. The accommodation was very clean, but is now looking a little tired. The breakfast was excellent and the owner Richard was very welcoming, attentive and helpful. There is plenty of on site parking, and there is a bus stop just outside, with very frequent services into the city. I would stay here again.

We stayed for an evening at the start of April as we were in York for a friend's birthday celebrations.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Richard, a lovely pleasant gentleman, who promptly gave us a key (which we could use at any time of night) and explained everything we needed to know about the room.

The room was very dated with floral patterns everywhere - which I actually quite liked, but had everything you could need, including tea and coffee facilities and an en suite bathroom with towels and miniature toiletries. The bed was comfortable.

Breakfast was a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, or cooked breakfast, with juice, tea or coffee. We opted for the breakfast with juice and tea, the breakfast wav very nicely cooked and we were offered lots of toast and drink top ups.

Convenience: The B&B is within 30mins or so walking distance of the town centre if you wanted to leave your car in the car park around the back whilst shopping. There is a small Londis, and a Co-Op garage (which we stopped at for late night snacks) across the road from the B&B if you require any food/drinks/toiletries. 2 minutes walk down the road there is a pub "The Fox and Roman" which is a Vintage Inn (chain) pub, however having never been to a Vintage Inn before and expecting the usual standard run of the mill chain pub grub, we were incredibly surprised with the offerings on the menu and after a gruelling decision between a few dishes, including Belly Pork, went for a "Wild Boar and Chorizo Burger" which was fabulous. I would recommend you try this pub if you need somewhere close to the B&B - but that's another review ;)

Check in was any time after 2pm and check out was at 11am.

I would stay here again, and thank Richard and his wife for a hassle free stay.
