“Overnight stay”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Stayed overnight in room No 7, the four poster room. Although warm, cosy and spacious some bits looked a little tired. Room faces on to main road so therefore was noisy from the traffic through the night. The ensuite has a macerator attached to the toilet and sink which exuded a very unpleasant smell. The room has a bath but is only advertised as with a shower, this may be because there is no bath plug!!
The host Angie was pleasant but only offered a very limited hot breakfast option which was very disappointing. Wouldn't recommend paying an extra £10 for this room.

Stayed overnight at No 71 and found it to be a good base to explore the city. The room was spacious, the bed huge and we found the hosts very welcoming. Despite being on a busy main road we found the hotel quiet. Angie cooked the breakfast on demand and even recommended an inexpensive car park for the day. A 10 minute walk away from the city.

We only stayed one night but the hosts we very welcoming & friendly & on the morning we were leaving they allowed us to leave our car in the car park whilst we strolled into York to do a spot of Christmas shopping we had a ground floor room at the front that was nicely decorated & didn't have to much traffic noise, we also had a very nice breakfast. Would definitely stay there again if visiting York.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. We had booked the small doouble and found it was more than an adequate size, they do state it as a small double. The room was clean and had everything we needed for a short stay, although the showerhead wouldn't stay up but didn't make any difference to our stay. The owners are lovely and make you feel right at home. As we were leaving we looked at room 1 which had been recently refurbished and was a great deal bigger. It was beautiful, clean, modern and looked very welcoming. We would definatly stay here again and maybe just for a little more luxury book the bigger room. Thanks for helping to make a much needed break truely wonderful!

the B&B is terrific. it is a bit out of town, but that is ok, because there is a great Italian place across the road, and the B&B itself is lovely. the hosts are friendly, but know the right mix of leaving you to your thing. I really enjoyed the stay. it is a lovely big Victorian house, huge rooms and comfy surroundings, at a great price.
enjoy!

I was booked in to No 71 for a business trip. I arrived in the evening from a long train trip. I was made to feel very welcome by the owners. The B&B is a Victorian building which still has some lovely details, like the fireplace- love these touches.

Angie made me a pot of tea which was so welcome after the long trip. The room was so cosy I didn't want to venture out; and didn't! The room was en-suite and supplied with tea and coffee making facilities. The room was spotlessly clean.

I had a very comfortable night and was sorry I had to leave the next day! I had the cooked breakfast which was freshly cooked and piping hot. Great to see granary toast too, small things make a difference.

I would definitely stay here again, if I returned to York. The great hospitality from the owners and the cosy rooms are a must visit.

We stayed in the dreaded No 5 room but still enjoyed our stay yes the bathroom is tiny but it was functional .On arriving we was greeted by sean who made us feel very welcome and gave us the invaluable map which came in handy so many times and also pointed us in the direction of some lovely little pubs . Should we visit the very pricy city of York again would definatly stay at No 71 again even room 5

Room Tip: If you want better find an hotel remember folks this is a B&B
