“A great place to stay”
Reviewed 13 February 2013

We stayed at the Holgate bridge for 2 nights in Feb 2013 and we really enjoyed our time there. Mark was very helpful and really made us feel like visiting guests instead of passing strangers; always offering us good advice and suggestions on local places to visit. Breakfast was one of the best we have had, very tasty and plenty of it. The room was nice - comfy bed, good selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. and the bathroom was clean and looked quite new. The room was a little cold and noisy the first night due to very strong winds banging against the old window but we had absolutely no problems the second night. Location was good, around 10-15 minutes walk to the centre of York, very easy to get to with lots of shops and bars to browse on the way! The hotel car park was very convienient and secure with lots of spaces. We would definitely stay again and would recommend it to our friends and family. Hope to be back soon!

Stayed at the Holgate bridge hotel last Saturday night. Great deal on Booking.com. Exceptionally friendly staff that really go out of there way to make you welcome. Our room was at the top of the house in room 8 a family room, good size. Coffee and tea facillities and good sized bathroom.
Beds were comfy an warm. Really excellent tasty cooked breakfast and my daughter got an perfect extra special boiled egg and soldiers. Even the chef came down and introduced himself to us it was like we were part of the family.
Only negatives we found was that we could not turn the radiator down in our room and it was uncomfortable hot, when the valve was altered it began to bang and woke us up so we had to leave it on full. The shower also was very poor, no pressure. When we reported to Jeanette she said they'd recently had a new boiler fitted and maybe this was the reason and would report it.
Hotel has its own car park to the rear so no daily charges, and walking distance to York gate is 10-15 minutes a cab cost £5 from the other side of York.

Stayed here with friends for a weekend. The owners were welcoming and friendly. Hotel was nice, warm, clean and tidy and good value for money.
The breakfast was 1st class and served by pleasent staff who were willing to help.
We had the benifit of room 2 which has a small lounge/kichenette area. This was great as we were with another couple and we used this for a coffee after breakfast and also for a drink when returning at night.
Free car parking which is a bonus in York.
Would we stay here again? Yes, and will do so on our next visit to York.

Room Tip: Room 2 has a lounge with fridge etc.

Stayed here for one night in a double room with ensuite. The room was clean comfortable and warm. It was very cold in York and after a great day shopping and meeting up with friends it was lovely to come back to a warm room and a hot bath. Being able to park the car in the hotel car park and then walk into York was a great advantage. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and quickly put you at your ease. The breakfast was lovely. There was a choice of cereals and fruit followed by a full english cooked breakfast (or choice of any of the cooked items). I went for scrambled egg and bacon and it was very tasty and well cooked. Then there was toast and jams and as much tea or coffee as you want and it was a decent cup of coffee. Nobody rushed us out at 10.00 am. The cost for a one night stay in York makes this a great value hotel and one I would use again. Mark the owner informed me the hotel is to be refurbished in January which will make it even more attractive. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We were booked into room 12 on the third floor and it was good. There is no lift for people with mob...
