stayed here for two nights 25th and 26th November, hotel room nice plenty of room stayed in room 6, hotel and restaraunt staff helpful and friendly, good choice on breakfats menu. My partner had the steak and ale pie one night after reading all the good reviews for it on trip advisor he really enjoyed but have got to say i opted for the pork belly dish in was superb would highly recommend this dish.

Hotel location ideal, would advise to pre-book if you wish to eat as busy, you will not be dis-appointed :)

Room Tip: we stayed in room 6 third floor, if you are not great on your legs ask for a room on first floor as...

My wife and I also booked this hotel for our Wedding Anniversary, a beautiful city and an historic Inn. We were aware about parking problems and as suggested by the Hotel, my wife parked around the corner, only to be told that she had to move as the road was a Taxi Rank, so with difficulty she found a location further away. I went to the Hotel, and found it crammed with people, and could not locate a reception area, only a bar and rooms filled with people. I went outside as I thought there must be another door and finding none, returned and had to "capture2 a busy member of staff in the kitchen. She explained there was no reception are, only the bar, and I protested that there was no way I would get to anyway near the bar, plus we had luggage. She was actually excellent and very helpful, and came back with me to our car and took our luggage for us, whilst we were directed to the local car park ( A ten minute walk at a brisk place, and not 5 minutes as we had been told previously) Top top it all off, they had not even reserved a table for us, which I had asked for, as there was a private party fully booked there. We were absolutely disgusted and my wife very unhappy and tired, and only wanted to shower and relax after our long drive. We then had to trawl the streets looking for a suitable restaurant that could take us. The entire evening utterly spoilt. The room was dark and dingy, but alright, and the views of York Minster spectacular. We did complain about the misleading advertising about the Inn, only to be told that, we had to expoect this situation as it was a "city location" ( we actually come from a city, and have never experienced this before> He was not at all apologetic or understanding, and there was no attempt to offer us any advice. We enjoyed our visit to York itself and the sights, but will never be coming back to this place, which hangs its only credibility as the birthplace of Guy Fawkes. On the plus side, the four poster bed was comfortable, the view spectacular, and hearing the chimes of York Minster, the breakfast was fair. But not good value for money.

Hi my wife and I booked a deluxe room in this hotel for our 35th wedding anniversary nov 12 for two nights
We thought it would be something special how wrong we were
We where given room 1 far from been deluxe it had a second bed in it floor was dirty and no soaps or anything in bathroom plus overlooking a courtyard and a large extractor fan from kitchen.
The hotel itself did not seem to have any atmosphere
The next day we decided to look around York and came back to hotel about 2pm afternoon only to be greeted by a workman saying are you in room 1 just we are working in there at moment fitting new shower screen we contacted manager
Only to be told he knew nothing of the work to be done in our room and was as confused as us
Then we stated we booked a deluxe room they apologised and refunded us 1 night accommodation and breakfast
We were just glad to get out of hotel on the Wednesday morning.

Room Tip: Phone before booking as all bookings go through they sister hotel

Me & my boyfriend saw this place one night and thought it was closed as it was very dark inside, but we could see gas lamps and candles glowing so one night we called in for a drink and it was just as dark inside as it was outside. The atmosphere was quite spooky but it was good.Wolud have liked to have stayed in the hotel as it was opposite the Minster and a good location.

Wow this place is amazing! It has so much charm and in such a great location! Our room was room 3 - a 4 poster room overlooking the Minster. Truly fantastic, comfy, luxurious, brilliant staff.

The bar is great and breakfast was fabulous.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the 4 posters.

We spent 2 nights in room 8, a fourposter room overlooking Petersgate and the Minster.
Comfortable clean room furnished with antiques, great views. It is a city centre hotel, so there was some noise from taxis, road cleaner etc. If you are a light sleeper this may not be for you. So saying, on the 2nd night we slept likes babies.
The bar & restaurant are lit by gas light and candles - very atmospheric. Be sure to book ahead if your want to eat in the restaurant as it gets very busy, and don't miss the steak and ale pie.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel clearly has a few maintenance issues - one of our bedroom lights was missing due to wiring problems and the smell from the gents public loo lingered round the bar. This is a shame as it does detract from the overall experiance but I would still book again. It's not a cookie-cutter hotel so be prepared to forgive it for a few quirks.

Room Tip: Go 'old school' and call the hotel when booking rather than via the internet. The rooms are...

We were in the 'Belfry' in the attic space. A couple of flights of stairs, with another up to the attic. Spacious room, seperate bathroom and living Room, original features and tastefully decorated. Ceiling very low so if you are over 5ft 4 you will need to bow your head in most places! But as we were pretty much there only for sleeping, this wasn't a problem. It is right next to the minster, next to a few more pubs/bars so can be noisy at night, but this settled once pubs started to close, however, you don't get traffic noise as its not situated on a main thro road. Food wise, we only had breakfast, full English which was ok.
Handy location, clean and spacious, nice food, not bad value for money and staff very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: The suite, in the large attic space, great esp for a treat!
