Myself and my husband stayed at the Guy Fawkes Inn for his birthday. I wanted something filled with character and history instead of the modern hotels, I certainly got it. The room we stayed in was lovely - high ceilings, spacious and luxurious. The hotel itself was quirky, off centre doors and original wooden floors and furniture. Dining and drinking by candle light was a lovely change from the clean cut modern hotels. The location was ideal - just about 2 minutes from the Minster and a direct stroll into the cobbled streets that York is famous for. Over all the stay was brilliant, apart from a couple of negatives..........the car park was a ten minute walk from the hotel - not good if you have a lot of luggage. If you travel by train the station is only a couple of minutes away. The staff were not very respectful in the early hours when they were preparing for the breakfast meals. The loud chatter at 4.30am was not very pleasant. Also the original wood floors and stairs meant that the noise of people climbing the stairs could be a little too noticable. The breakfast staff were loud on their feet at 4.30 too!!!! These issues about the noise could be easily rectified by the management telling the staff to keep it down, not difficult, I can't believe they don't know the noise levels. Like I said apart from this I would definately stay there again, I just love the history of it all...................I would be telling the staff myself at 4.30 in the morning though!!!!!
