From the outset we didn't know what to expect from the inn but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed very warmly and shown through to our room as soon as possible. They did mentioned they were short staffed but did the best they could to satisfy us. Our room was beautiful - such old school but modern features inside, nice teas/coffes/milk and a good pressured shower. It wasn't very noisy either considering it's also a pub so we slept peacefully. Breakfast in the morning, service was great again, was wonderful for an all inclusive price. I would highly recommend this room to any young couple. We paid around £80 for the night with breakky :)

Room Tip: We had to double bed

My friends and I have just recently stayed at the Guy Fawkes Inn on the 21st September, 2013. I have to say first impressions were very homely and friendly. We stayed in the attic room which was rumoured to be haunted and we weren't disappointed! The floors were very uneven and the ceilings very low, but I think it added to the character of the building. The main bedroom was very comfortable, but the other room with the bed settees was very cold and the beds were uncomfortable! We kept hearing strange banging noises during the night, which we thought was coming from outside. We also got a strange feeling that someone was watching us the old time. We had a few drinks, but I know it wasn't that kind of spirits!! The breakfast was good, plenty of cereals, fruit juices, pastries and a full English. The staff are very helpful, but extremely busy as this pub is right in the centre of things, next to the minster. I would stay there again because it's certainly something different.

Room Tip: If you are frightened of a spooky atmosphere, don't stay in the attic room(The Belfrey)

Went for our silver wedding lived up to all our expectations. You have to like this sort of inn but we do and we did it is not for everyone when there is the a Best Western Monkbar and the York Hilton to choose but they wouldn't come close to this inn. Food excellent, staff excellent and the bedroom what can I say beautiful four poster room. According to my hubby as I am not a beer drinker real ales brilliant. I loved the candlelit bar and restaurant, as I say food excellent and room price includes breakfast hubby had a full english! It is an amazing place if you are historical you could almost touch York Minster. It was like taking a step back in time would recommend.

This was a surprise overnight stay for me at my wife's expense!! The Inn has only 14 bedrooms with different beds and rooms sizes, we had a very slope, uneven, four poster bed room with a massive en suite and a very nice free standing bath in it. It wasn't the most luxurious of rooms for £209 including breakfast or with immaculate flooring to the en-suite but clean and charming all the same. Breakfast was good and the sleep was great so no ghosts for us as the beer obviously took over!! I would still recommend this place as it has a lot of character and is close to the town right opposite the Minster! The bar was excellent and the staff very accommodating, the candlelit presence all through was different and you felt like you had stepped back in time.

Room Tip: Go for the more expensive rooms as they are bigger with character.

I am glad you enjoyed the character of the building and the location, it is an extremely popular place because of this.
We do feel we are good value for money rather than expensive and obviously our location and history is value for money in itself.
We do hope you will return to us soon!

A lovely, quirky inn in an ideal location for exploring York. The staff were all friendly and attentive and the food was excellent, with both breakfast and dinner being served in candlelight which created a lovely atmosphere. The bedroom in the Guy Fawkes Cottage was very spacious, clean and full of character. Will definitely stay there again.
