Great experience at this pub. We walked in and found live music which was great. The place was candle lit and really fun atmosphere.

Staff did their job but not the most talkative bunch.

Cool place for a pint.

We stopped here for a a few hours for a late afternoon drink. It's a cosy place to do so with lots of atmosphere and a warm feel with the cold outside. You can sit here and forget the world outside for a few hours in the dark and and old worlde atmosphere of the rooms

This pub has lots of character for a drink or a meal and the staff are very helpful, but the rooms for an overnight stay are very expensive, damp, noisy and equipped with delapidated furniture. The central heating was not working so we had a portable electric heater and the room vibrated from the ventilation fan next door. The nearest car park is some 15 minutes walk away and it is difficult to stop anywhere near to load or unload luggage.

Room Tip: Rooms round the smoker's yard are noisy until late evening.

Lovely old building with furniture and décor in keeping with the age. We had a beautiful view of the Minster. Guy Fawkes is very central for the city. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere in the public areas was very welcoming and cosy. I thought because of the age it might be cold and draughty but it was extremely warm and cosy. Possibly because of the gas lights on the ground floor and the fires. Food was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rooms are very spacious and we were given a free late check out until 12 which was very much appreciated.

Room Tip: Room 3 had a great view of the Minster and 3 very large windows. It was very light and airy

Our stay was fabulous. Warm welcome by the duty manager. Poor man was having to cope with a broken boiler apologised for lack of heat but promised us this was a temporary problem and it was fixed within an hour!! Considering the location and that it is also a busy bar the rooms are far enough away and very quiet! We stayed in a doubleroom. Bed was very comfy en suite was very small but fuctional!! The bar area is warm and cosy and has a great atmosphere. We didn't try the restaraunt but the food smelt amazing. We will have to try this next time as we will definatly be back as we love York and now we have a superb place to stay! We wanted to stay an extra night but sadly they were fully booked. Ahh well we will have to go again soon maybe a four poster room next time!

From the outset we didn't know what to expect from the inn but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed very warmly and shown through to our room as soon as possible. They did mentioned they were short staffed but did the best they could to satisfy us. Our room was beautiful - such old school but modern features inside, nice teas/coffes/milk and a good pressured shower. It wasn't very noisy either considering it's also a pub so we slept peacefully. Breakfast in the morning, service was great again, was wonderful for an all inclusive price. I would highly recommend this room to any young couple. We paid around £80 for the night with breakky :)

Room Tip: We had to double bed

My friends and I have just recently stayed at the Guy Fawkes Inn on the 21st September, 2013. I have to say first impressions were very homely and friendly. We stayed in the attic room which was rumoured to be haunted and we weren't disappointed! The floors were very uneven and the ceilings very low, but I think it added to the character of the building. The main bedroom was very comfortable, but the other room with the bed settees was very cold and the beds were uncomfortable! We kept hearing strange banging noises during the night, which we thought was coming from outside. We also got a strange feeling that someone was watching us the old time. We had a few drinks, but I know it wasn't that kind of spirits!! The breakfast was good, plenty of cereals, fruit juices, pastries and a full English. The staff are very helpful, but extremely busy as this pub is right in the centre of things, next to the minster. I would stay there again because it's certainly something different.

Room Tip: If you are frightened of a spooky atmosphere, don't stay in the attic room(The Belfrey)
