The hotel is lovely, historic and extremely well situated. Unfortunately the rooms are centered around the back courtyard of the pub, which proves extremely noisy when you are trying to sleep. Other than that the pub had a good choice of real ales and the food, both for breakfast and the evening meals are really lovely, well cooked and tasty

Tthanks for you review.
We have a closure time on the courtyard from 10.30 pm.
This has helped considerably with noise.
I hope you would consider staying with us again in the future.

We didn't stay at thishotel.... only visited for food and drinks. However, after the success of the visit we will be returning and staying next time - hopefully sooner rather than later.

As we were passing and exploring the city we stumbled upon this centrally located pub and the initial idea was to call in for one drink on the way to somewhere else... 3 hours later and we were still there!

The staff were brilliant and very welcoming and a good laugh, Richard and Adam especially! So much so that we revisited the following day rather than exploring more places.

When we did return we decided to stay for an evening meal and it was lovely. The fish and chips I decided on was a very very generous portion, as was the Steak pie that my friend bought. Tasted amazing too!

In short... a gem of a place that I will be making sure I return to in the very near future!!

Stayed with wife for a long weekend while staying in the UK. I wanted to show her, (she is Thai) a little bit of old England. Well the Guy Fawkes most defiantly did the job..... Though I think the jury is still out with her after my explanation regarding Guy Fawkes and the whole bonfire and fireworks thing!
As for the Inn...Great location, nice ambiance, breakfast and friendly staff. The room we stayed in was on the top floor and facing the Minster, the ascent and descent to our room was interesting due to the age of the building, (the staircase leaning one way...or the other)
Our room, though small, was large enough for a two night stay, however....too make a coffee, plug in a lap top or charge a phone meant you had to unplug a bedside light, move something, climb under .... something......Or a combination of all.
Only one drip really....The bed, on one side the mattress had seen better days and was not comfortable at all. In saying this the room was clean and bedding/pillow were nice.
Food, we only had breakfast at the hotel, happy to report it was very good.
We did not use the bar, for no other reason than we were out all the time.
A good plus is the fantastic location of this Inn.
I have mixed feeling about the Guy Fawkes Inn......We enjoyed our stay very much, how much was down to the Inn and how much was down to location.....we are still not sure.

This was the first time we had stayed at the Guy Fawkes Inn despite staying in York on a regular basis. My husband and I were very impressed with the Inn, we were greeted and escorted to our room which was at the front of the building with a wonderful view of the stunning minster. The room was clean and comfortable, with room service each day. The staff were very friendly and approachable. Breakfast was yummy (great eggs!). The Inn is candlelit downstairs giving it a 'walking back in time feel' which is cosy and in keeping with the historic surroundings. We were contacted on our arrival home by the very helpful general manager to inform us I had left a white gold necklace in the room, we were very impressed with the honesty and prompt action taken to return the item. Its nice to know staff are trustworthy. We stayed for a two night break and will definitely be booking again very soon!! We will certainly be recommending the Guy Fawkes Inn to friends and family.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the front of the building the view of the minster is breath taking!

Booked a room for a birthday. From the moment we got there we were over realmed by the hotel. You enter the hotel straight into the small bar. Which is very nice it has both candles and gas lamps lighting the bar which was a pleasant surprise. Signing in was no problem and the staff were very helpfull. The room was though the court yard which we thought may have been a problem later on in the night but it is not as the court yard is closed after 10.30pm for the peace of the residents. At the end of the courtyard up some metal stair to a very nice large room and bathroom. A lovely four poster bed was the center piece and a great bath room. We had a very tasty meal in the restaurant only problem was there was enough for me but then again I'm a big eater . The breakfast more than made up for it, it was great and I was full after it. Will be booking again when go back to york.
