we have just stayed in this hotel 26th oct for the weekend , its the 2nd time we have stayed here, the rooms are getting decorated and look fab - - thinking of coping for my bedroom. We stayed in room 3 which is a bit small but did not put us off . Its only about 5 min walk to the shops etc.
This is a very friendly hotel , breakfast are fab , it is the only place will keep on returning to when visiting york .

The Crook Lodge is a great choice for York visitors. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in Room 4. The room was very clean with a king-sized bed but a bit tight. Despite this, we found it be an excellent value for its location and overall comfort. The train track is very close by but we had no problems sleeping. And although the B&B was fully booked, we heard very little from the other guests around us.

Breakfast is served between 8:30am and 9:15am. It was typical of English B&Bs – full English breakfast with assortment of cereal and fruit (fresh and canned). The service is very efficient.

Laptop users will be happy to find complimentary WIFI. Other guests may use the computer located in the lounge on the ground floor.

For laundry, we used the dry cleaners (5 minute walk). I dropped off at 9:30am and picked up later the same day. This was an expensive option but well worth the convenience. From Crook Lodge, walk to the end of St Mary’s towards Bootham. Cross Bootham and continue left down the street. Pass the hotel on the right and you will see the dry cleaners sign.

There are 6 companies offering ghost walks. We decided to go with Haunted Walk (every night at 8pm at the Exhibition Square). It is run by Tony, who started the company 25 years ago. The tour seemed more historical than the others and Tony is very knowledgeable about York’s history. There are choices for anyone interested in ghost walks.

In short, this was a pleasant visit. We would recommend Crook Lodge to others and if we should return to York, we will most definitely book a stay with the Aikens.

We selected this B&B based on its own website as it looked - and was - a very genteel guesthouse, with really nice owners. We booked rooms 4 & 5 for 3 nights and while the beds in both were very comfortable (though room 5 is a tiny double room) and the level of cleanliness very high, unfortunately we did find the close proximity of the train line to be a problem. The heat in the hall and landings was on full blast all day, leaving the rooms very warm and necessitating us to leave the windows open. While trains did not run past all night (though they did from very early morning), we could hear them on the other line as well as our own. In addition there is a public carpark outside room 4 and a pedestrian laneway - both of which add to the noise. After 3 nights of broken sleep we were both like zombies! On a positive note, the B&B is very centrally located, breakfasts were nice and it was possible to check my emails..... just dont forget to bring earplugs!

We just got back from a three day stay in York, and would have to recomend Crook Lodge.

This is the first B+B Ive stayed in, and was understandably wary of what to expect, but it seems we struck lucky on the first attempt!

The owner is incredibly friendly - nothing was too much trouble. (he even got up early to make us breakfast when we were having an early start)
BTW - the breakfasts are great!

The room was clean, had en suite - a TV etc - the B+B has parking and is a 5-10 min walk down the road from the Historic centre of Lincoln....
All in all, seemed to be an extremely slick and friendly operation -
Had an enjoyable stay - no complaints whatsoever.

We stayed at Crook Lodge for 3 days recently.
It is a lovely guest house very close to the city centre (5 min walk) through lovely parkland or along the river walk and very close to the railway station (5-10 min walk).
Very cosy and comfortable and situated in a very nice, quiet area.
Room was comfortable and adequate and breakfast (full english) was top notch.
We ewre made very welcome by our hosts who were able to give plenty of advice as to what to see and do.
Thoroughly recommended. We would definitely stay again.

This is a nice little B&B in York. We stayed here based on a Rick Steve's recommendation... The room was very small (about 2 feet on each side of the bed, plus an extra little bit for the entryway and the bathroom). Despite being small, the room was relatively comfortable, cramped bathroom but workable... The only other issue was the walls were pretty thin and we could hear everything the people in the room next to us were saying one morning. But considering there's almost zero traffic on the street, we were happy with that tradeoff.

Breakfast was basic continental (cereals, fruit, yogurts) plus an english breakfast. Tasted yummy, that's all that matters to me!

All in all we would probably stay there again just for the convenience of walking into town (nice little walk through a park) and they also have a little parking lot on the side of the house which is very convenient if you have a rental car. Not too many places in York have free parking.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Brian the owner was very nice and accomodating and let us use his wireless internet with our laptop. That was a nice little bonus.

Thanks again!

The Crook Lodge in York is in a great location for people on foot. You can walk there from the train station in about 10 minutes, and can walk to all the parts of old York quite easily. Our family of 5 used the two rooms on the upper floor and were quite comfortable. The rooms are a little small, but are very clean, nicely furnished, and have roomy ensuite bathrooms with tubs/handheld showers. The train passes close by several times a day, but not during the night. The train noise was not unpleasant. The included full English breakfast was very good. We enjoyed York the most, out of 5 towns we stayed in during our trip. There is a lot to see, and Crook Lodge put us close to everything. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Crook Lodge to our friends, and would stay there again.
