The Crook Lodge is a great choice for York visitors. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in Room 4. The room was very clean with a king-sized bed but a bit tight. Despite this, we found it be an excellent value for its location and overall comfort. The train track is very close by but we had no problems sleeping. And although the B&B was fully booked, we heard very little from the other guests around us.
Breakfast is served between 8:30am and 9:15am. It was typical of English B&Bs – full English breakfast with assortment of cereal and fruit (fresh and canned). The service is very efficient.
Laptop users will be happy to find complimentary WIFI. Other guests may use the computer located in the lounge on the ground floor.
For laundry, we used the dry cleaners (5 minute walk). I dropped off at 9:30am and picked up later the same day. This was an expensive option but well worth the convenience. From Crook Lodge, walk to the end of St Mary’s towards Bootham. Cross Bootham and continue left down the street. Pass the hotel on the right and you will see the dry cleaners sign.
There are 6 companies offering ghost walks. We decided to go with Haunted Walk (every night at 8pm at the Exhibition Square). It is run by Tony, who started the company 25 years ago. The tour seemed more historical than the others and Tony is very knowledgeable about York’s history. There are choices for anyone interested in ghost walks.
In short, this was a pleasant visit. We would recommend Crook Lodge to others and if we should return to York, we will most definitely book a stay with the Aikens.
