Terrible! The most horrific food I have ever been served. The waitress didn't even apologise when I said something! Do not waste your time or money... For what you get the good is over priced... £10 for some microwaved, over cooled salmon on a limp bed of over dressed salad. Not good!

We arrived at the Masons Arms on a short break. First impressions of the pub were nice. Lovely log, gas effect fire was very welcoming after our trip from London. We were meeting our friends and staying in the pub together. We went to put the cases in the room, it was small and needed a lot of updating, but hey we were only sleeping there. We went straight out to explore and have a meal. We arrived back to the room tired and ready for a good sleep. I pulled back the sheets and was nearly sick, there was blood, long black hairs and worst of all unmentionable bodily fluid stains, (that's not what I originally called them!) The sheets had not been changed from the last occupants! On asking to speak to the Landlord or Landlady we were told they were not in. The person "in charge"came and inspected the bed and said she did not know where the clean sheets were kept,so offered us another room, but there was no apology and seemed quite put out and couldn't wait to get back to the bar and the "quiz night. It was the most awful night I have ever spent and we have travelled all over the world. We asked for, and got back our money the next morning. When I mentioned that if it was my business, I would sack the cleaning staff, and was told that it was the usual housekeepers day off, and they had no problem with her. But the" European " cleaners didn't have the same standard, please, if it was my business on the line, there would be no second thought. So, would I recommend the Masons Arms, you must be joking!

our first stay here. only stayed the one night but will definitely be back. Its location is spot on. The town centre is only a 5 minute stroll away. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Car was parked securely. Had a meal Saturday and it was really good, massive portions too. The room was clean and cosy. So all in all a pleasant stay.

Stayed here after staying at lighthorseman on previous visit considering this hotel is more expensive should offer a lot more, bed was small and creaky, tv was tiny, room was small and dingy, no breakfast provided now if I was paying £30 I would maybe understand but this room was £70 wouldn't recommend there are better value hotels in York
