My husband booked a room here at last minute to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

We stayed in room No. 2 up a metal staircase. The room was cheap and cheerful. We found it clean and tidy but decoration was looking a little tired with a very small TV. The towels in the small bathroom smelt a little musty.

The pub was located a short walk from the city centre so it is ideally located for the shops and restaurants.

We also had a meal in the pub which was lovely with generous portions. The pub has lots of objet d'art and looks like it would be ideal in a 70s setting.

All the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: If mobility is a problem rooms are available on the ground floor.

Stayed end of February for a nights break away for my husbands birthday. Room was dirty, shabby in need of a good decorate, Bathroom door looked like it had never been wiped over with a clean cloth.Thick dust on radiator in bathroom. Old shabby bed linen. Had to sleep with a towel over the pillow cos I just felt so uncomfortable with the place. Really cant understand how people can rate these rooms as clean. The only good thing I can say is that it was very warm.

Visited York this weekend and whilst there is little doubt this is a City in which you are spoilt for choice for places to eat, we were recommended to The Masons Arms by a lovely lady at our B and B.
As such I am simply writing this review insofar as their Menu and general hospitality is concerned and am UNABLE to comment about the accomodation on offer.
The venue is what I would describe as a good old fashioned pub situated just a short walk from the City Walls and no more than a 5 minute walk from the City Centre.
We were made extremely welcome by all the staff we spoke with and managed to get a great table in what I would describe as the rear bar area. The bar(s) were relatively quiet when we arrived around 7pm but had started to fill up by the time we left about 8.30pm; most everyone was ordering food but getting a table did not seem to be causing any problems.
The bar was well stocked with a great selection of beers on draft but it was the menu which was for me the best thing about the visit; Roast Dinners, Home made Pies of all descriptions, Steaks, Chilli, Curry - the list could go on and on - pick the 'trimmings' to suit, very generous portions and with most main courses costing around 10 of your english pounds what more could a person seek after a hectic days sight seeing cum shopping.
This is not some nameless, by the numbers Gastro type venue(god knows there are enough of them to go round) and if thats what you want go there, not here; however if what you are looking for is a Britsh Pub with good beer, good service and possibly the most extensive and excellent menu I have encountered, all at a price which wont break the Bank, then The Masons Arms is worthy of at least one visit during your York stop over.

During our annual trip to the races we found this excellent little establishment just away from the hustle of the city centre. the previous 4 years its been difficult to get a table without a wait but on the last visit we had a choice of tables. The fantastic menu was no longer available and we were offered only a selection of burgers. Needless to say we left hungry and disappointed.

I went here with family members. All four of us enjoyed the food. The portions are generous, hot and tasty.

Lots of choice of good home cooked food. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Puddings were delicious.

All the food was reasonably priced.

We were only visiting York so won't be visiting regularly but if we visit York again and need somewhere to eat it will definitely be our first choice!

Terrible! The most horrific food I have ever been served. The waitress didn't even apologise when I said something! Do not waste your time or money... For what you get the good is over priced... £10 for some microwaved, over cooled salmon on a limp bed of over dressed salad. Not good!
