We stayed at the guest house as we were shopping in York, it is well situated a short walk to the Minster, a very clean and well decorated room which was warm and quiet during the night. We were made very welcome and received some great advice about the bars nearby. The breakfast was a very good quality. We would definitely stay again.

Our room was tidy, clean and comfortable and wonderfully warm. Natalie made us very welcome and we had all that we could have needed for our 2 night stay, she pointed us in the right direction and took the time to explain getting around and making recommendations of where other guests had been. It was so quiet we were not aware of any of the other guests. the breakfast was delicious so very filling that we didnt need any lunch! The house is located a short walk from the city centre and gave us the chance to work off what we ate. we would happily recommend the Brentwood to anyone visiting York, in terms of character and welcome it was a refreshing break from some of the anonymous chains, and the breakfast topped it all off!

We stayed at the Brentwood over the weekend of the 7th - 9th of December.
We had a room on the ground floor which was such a nice room.
Comfy bed, lovely clean and modern ensuite shower/toilet/sink area. The room was always lovely and warm which, given how cold it was outside, was a welcoming return.
The breakfasts were lovely. Plentiful and cooked to order.
The Brentwood is about 10 minutes walk from the Bootham Gate entrance into York which was great for our weekend requirements.
We had travelled to York on the train and it took us about 20-25 minutes to walk up to the Brentwood. On the day we left, we were told we could leave our bags at the hotel and collect them later on if we wanted to, to save us carting them around town with us. This was a very welcome offer and it was nice to know that our bags were nice and safe.
Thank you Brentwood. We came on a recommendation ourselves and will have no hesitation in recommending you to others.

When I write reviews on Trip Advisor I write them to help other travellers who are considering places to stay by being as honest as I can. I won't big up a place if I was not happy but I wont mark a place down for silly things, I will just mention what went wrong or was unsatisfactory.

We chose the Brentwood Guest House over renting an apartment for the weekend, having looked into renting a place the prices were far away from the actual advertised price, you know the ones, "Rent from £150 for the weekend" only to find out that was for one specific weekend in january or something ridiculous.

Now, the Brentwood Guest House.

Booking was simple, just a quick phone call was all it took, extremely friendly and helpful, it was a busy weekend (Christmas Market weekend) so we were very lucky to get the last two rooms. The Landlady is lovely and so are the staff, really helpful and nothing is too much trouble, always a friendly smile which I like, I dont like going to places where staff are miserable.

We stayed in room 1 on the bottom floor, a double room with en-suite, spotless, fresh and well equipped, decorated really nice. The bed was fine, nice and comfy and plenty big enough.

The breakfast here is top drawer, good quality produce cooked very well and a decent portion. The food was cooked to order which makes a nice change from the buffet styled dried out congealed rubbish you get in up market hotels these days.

We went with my daughter who is heavily pregnant and her husband so we really did want to be close to the city centre so as not have to walk too far. The Brentwood is a ten minute walk from the Minster which is just about right.

Would I go again, you bet I would, we are planning another trip to York for next summer and I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else to be honest.

To sum up, the Brentwood punches well above its weight, good honest value, great staff and great location.

Five stars from me in a heartbeat.

Lovely Guest House, Shirley is very welcoming, the bedrooms are a adequate size, the Breakfast is superb and as much as you would want to eat.
Location is excellent, 10 minute walk from the city centre where the bars and restaurants are too numerous to mention and cater for all tastes.
Will recommend without hesitation to all and we will be back soon.

Room Tip: We had room 5 which is at the front on the first floor, wouldn't go for a ground floor room though.
