Stayed two nights at this hotel last week, February 2013. A well situated hotel, only an 8 minute walk to the York Minster. The hotel is comfortable and well furnished with an Edwardian feel to it. The room we had was in the attic area, it was quite small with only limited wardrobe space but very comfortable. It had a large en suite bathroom but did not have a shower, should you require a shower facility then it can be requested and if available the staff will accommodate. We will return to this hotel but next time I would know to request a room with a shower.
The staff are lovely and friendly.
Parking is limited and we were asked to leave our car keys with reception in case our car needed to be moved, this was not a problem.
The hotel only does breakfast but this was very good and had plenty choice.

I had this weekend stay as a surprise birthday treat and it certainly was. The staff were all wonderful. Brekkie was fab especially loved the scrambled eggs with salmon, with no wating so very prompt nothing too much trouble. Loved our bedroom. Only one critiscm the loo at the bottom of the stairs seems to give off a smell that wafts up the staircase. Great time thanks for making it special. Would love to stay again.

We stayed for a long weekend using a Secret Escapes deal and overall were very pleased and impressed with Marmadukes hotel. It is nicely located just out of the main city centre but only a 10 minute stroll to the cathedral and city centre. It has a quiet location and only took 10 minutes to walk to the station by a signposted back street walk. The welcome when we arrived at Friday midday was so welcoming and friendly, which gave a good initial feel. The Deluxe Double room in the main building was a good size and the antique furniture was all tasteful and gave the room ambience. It was cold when we got in the room as no heating was on, but there was a fan heater in the cupboard for the room that warmed it quickly and once the radiators were on it stayed nicely warm when zero outside. The room was clean, although the main cupboard had a lot of dust on the top that needed cleaning. The bathroom was fine, although the shower had fine adjustments on the taps that took time to get right. The shower screen was quite dirty at the seal and toiletries were not replenished. The same for the tea, milk and biscuits in the room which were not refreshed on the second day. There was no DVD player that I thought was meant to be in the room, but for us not needed. Overall, a little more attention needed. Breakfast was good with quality produce. Staff were all friendly, although quick off the mark to remind that you needed to be out by 11am or they charge £15 an hour. These latter things were all small 'niggles' that did not affect our stay much - for a 'boutique' hotel that is small they were not expected though. Overall, with a deal, decent value and a good hotel that I would recommend and return to. Thank you for a lovely stay and well down to the staff who were most welcoming.
